Can you recent cruisers tell me which nights are formal nights? (on 6 night cruise)-we leave on Sunday-YEAH!

Formal nights were #2 and #5. Have fun!

And yes bjd, you're right, it was the Grandeur. I don't know why I put the Splendour.

Platinum and above get robes automatically however you can request a robe and it's up to the room steward to decide if you can have one. We asked while were gold members and did receive one. Good luck on that.

I would love to install one of those showers in my second bathroom..

do any of the Jewel sailers (sailors?) know if Rafai and Menino were working on this cruise? Rafai was usually at the Schooner lounge and Menino was in the casino bar... they were really hits of the cruise both times i've sailed on her..

Same here - we spent no time in the casino nor in the Schooner Bar so didn't get to meet any of those working there.

The only complaint I ever had onboard was that it seemed that bar servers, especially in the Coral Theater, had no use for those of us who don't drink. We purchased the soda package (bad idea...we didn't use it anywhere near enough to cover the cost) and when the servers realized that we weren't going to order alchohol they would get a little huffy and maybe "forget" to bring you your soda. The sad part is...I tip anyone who gives me good, pleasant service, even though I've already paid a gratuity in the soda package. Therefore, the tall, cute guy in the Coral Theater who rolled his eyes and snorted at me lost out on $$$.

I will tell you that Rex is the best stateroom attendant in the world! He went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. When we were able to get into our cabin on the first day I left a note with a pre-tip, thanking him in advance for his part in what I knew would be a great week, and asking for the eggcrate mattress pads that are available if you get them soon enough. He rounded them up for us right away and it really did help. I have a lot of trouble sleeping on strange beds (I mean strange as in "not mine") and was worried about the beds on the Jewel. I don't know for sure if it was the mattress pads but I slept like a baby every night and woke with no back pain. That man worked hard...I was pleased to tip him well because he really deserved it.

The staff on the Jewel really did play a huge part in making our trip so pleasant and memorable. Our headwaiter (a sweetie from Poland...I can't remember his name right now), our waiter, Pramod, an enthusiastic young man from India, and our assitant waiter, Glynnis, a beautiful, cheerful young woman from South Africa, along with Rex (mentioned above) were all just delightful. Each one went out of their way for us. A couple of times my DH and I weren't pleased with something ordered and Pramod had the offending plate gone as if it had been beamed up and a new offering in front of us just as fast. Our headwaiter made a special arrangement for us one night that was above and beyond what anyone could have expected. I can't tell you what...it must remain a secret.;)

One tip - my DH and I love to sit on our balcony at night with a cup of hot chocolate or other hot beverage and just soak in the moon and the stars. The first night we ordered the hot chocolate from room service...it took a long time and was cold by the time we got it and, yes, I tipped the server. Then I found out that, just outside the Windjammer, in the room to the right before you enter the main door, they have a hot beverage station always open. BINGO! Thereafter, I made the hot cup run just before we had our balcony time at night. Beautiful! Cool wind, bright stars, luminous moon and a warm cup of anything you like. Enjoy!
