We did the semi-sub and it was worth it.  You will have plenty of time to wander.

Most of the area around Cataline is a Marine Protected Area so there are many differnet species of fish and wildlife. It is a favorite of recreational suba and snorkeling. You would still have time to wonder around town, which is also very cool after the tour.
