Salmon shipped home?

One of the folks on our trip wanted to ship some fresh salmon home to her daughter. Does anyone know where is the best place to have it shipped from and who to do business with?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks to all who responded. I will pass these sites on to my friend.

Is there a fish market or store on the docks in one of the ports that we could have fresh salmon shipped home? My friend is not interested in fishing just getting some fresh salmon.

I have done this in VanCouver but it was smoked salmon.

You will NOT be able to get fresh (not frozen) salmon shipped nor would you want it. Too many chances of the salmon going bad-salmon must be kept between 34-38 degrees in a fresh state and no way to do that except in a refrigerated container. We are in the logistics/trucking business and have contracts to ship salmon all over the world and even with our refrigereted trucks and containers, we only occasionally ship FRESH (not frozen) salmon. And the minimum is 5,000 pounds.

That said, the salmon you get in Alaska is FRESH-usually caught within a day or two unless you are buying already frozen salmon. It is processed and blast frozen (fast, very low temp freeze) within hours of being brought to the processor.

You can go to any of the processors around any of the docks to see if they will sell an individual product. We have used this guy in Seward to process some of our own catch. Don't know whether he sells anything, but it would be worth a look if you are going to Seward. http://www.captainjacksalaska.com/

One of my employees, who spends his summers overseeing our salmon shipping, suggested this place in Juneau. http://www.jerrysmeats.com/

But the Juneau place looks no different than the Homer place I posted previously or the Anchorage place that GlacierLady posted. Catalog stores that have Alaskan salmon, but you could order the same thing from the lower 48.

If you want truly fresh Alaskan salmon, you will have to fish for it, take it to the processor, and ship or carry it home. Then you can truly say you have fresh Alaskan salmon. LOL!!!!
