Explorer Dry Dock / Refresh May 23 - June 6 2023

Recommended Posts

Hey All-

I’m sure some of us on upcoming cruises aboard the Seven Seas Explorer would find it of benefit to learn about the ongoing refresh in Victoria, BC before this summer’s Alaska season. I’ll be enjoying my first Regent sailing with some friends from Vancouver to Seward!

On a previous thread from a couple months/weeks back, there was speculation that the refresh that guests would experience would be very minor (I’m not one to pry on what’s happening beneath the waterline…) Folks suggested updates such as upholstery, paint and even StarLink internet service.

Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to find specific information online. This is a longer time for a ship to be removed for service. Has anyone requested such information from Regent or have a clearer view of what changes or updates may be in store? I’d imagine large alterations or upgrades to the ship would be leveraged as a marketing tool, though that is my own speculation.

So curious to hear what intel you may have!

Thanks for the suggestion on calling.

Spoke with a Regent agent who mentioned no knowledge of updates and that this is typically communicated to them after the updates have been completed.

She did mention that we can typically expect new mattresses, linens, towels and carpeting.

They can look up the next scheduled dry dock.....I've done it many times since 2015.

  • 2 weeks later...

So do we know what was actually done during this dry dock?

Hopefully they cleaned the upholstery on the chairs in the restaurants as some chairs were in desperate need of that, but interested in what else, if anything, was done in public areas. I wonder what areas were recarpeted?

Here’s their response, summarized:

- StarLink internet service/capability was NOT added.

- “Fairly extensive” update of the Explorer Lounge.

- Infinity edge pool (back of spa) refurbishment including retiling.

- Complete teak and marble restoration in the barrooms including replacement (as needed) in all of the suite categories, all suites.

- Carpet replacement throughout most hallways and public areas of the ship.

- New carpet in every single concierge suite and explorer suite.

- Deep cleaning and restoration of wear-and-tear items throughout the ship.
