Booking Advice Needed…

I have an odd scenario that I need advice on….
I have a room booked for 4 occupants on the Sunshine in September. The 4th guest is listed as TBD because I am not sure if my husband will be able to go due to his work schedule (hurricane season). I realize I will have to list a name at some point and I am thinking this is at check in but it may be when the final payment is due in July. If he is unable to go, I had planned to take my mom instead. I also read where there is a charge for name change which is fine. Hopefully it’s minimal.

In the meantime of trying to get this figured out, my aunts have decided to go as well. One of them is handicapped so my mom will definitely need to be there to help with her.  I can’t decide what to do with the room situation. 🤪

Should they go ahead and book a room for the 3 of them and let me deal with my TBD guest closer to the departure? Perhaps one of my boys can take a friend.

Should I add my mom as my TBD guest, tell my aunts to book the room for 2 (it has occupancy of 3) and then let my husband get added to their room if he is able to go? We would obviously get him and my moms rooms switched when they get on board.

What happens if I pay in full and my 4th person isn’t able to come? I am thinking we just lose out on the money paid for the 4th guest.

Sorry that is so long but I was trying to give as much info as possible so y’all could lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for your help? By the way, I have a PVP but she is on vacation and the hold expires tonight.

How about you call carnival or your travel agent?

What type of rate are you holding?  If it is Early Saver or non-refundable, there are different rules.  And Carnival no longer gives the PVP a credit if you have the cruise on hold.

I would have aunt can book handicap cabin for three, with all three of their names.  You leave yours as is until a choice needs to be made.  You can usually drop a third or fourth person before final payment but that may impact your fare.  If it would, I would add hubby’s name at final then see what happens.  Worse case after that is a name change fee or losing his cruise fare (just make sure he is listed as third or fourth cruiser).

This way, your mom and aunts are not impacted by any changes you want to make to your cabin.

That makes total sense to me. We went ahead booked their room just like you said because the hold was going to expire.
I didn’t realize that PVPs no longer received credit for rooms put on hold. I am glad you told me that.
