BalancingWanderlust Posted July 20, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Hello, My husband and I are thinking of doing a European cruise from Southampton UK next spring (April-ish). We have two young kids (will be ages 2.5 and 4.5 at time of cruise). What are some of your favorite British Isles cruise ports to do with kids? Typically we like smaller more walkable towns/cities with a few fun thing for the kids (cool playgrounds, kid friendly museums, nature attractions, park walks, etc.). Thanks 🙂 Sarah. Globaliser Posted July 20, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2023 There were some ideas posted by knowledgeable people in this thread, although you may want to check the age ranges for the suggestions made there:

sleepingcat Posted July 26, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2023 I'm restricting my replies to ports here in the southwest of the UK which is where we live. Falmouth: castle, beach, port, national maritime museum with boats to climb on and pretend to sail. Torquay or Dartmouth: steam train trip combined with a river cruise. Kents Cavern, inhabited by early man. Nice port, good fish and chips, lovely beach. Isles of Scilly: castles, cute towns, lovely beaches, boat trips Portland: Weymouth is a traditional British seaside resort with a lovely beach, playground, children's entertainments etc.

sleepingcat Posted July 9 #6 Share Posted July 9 sorry, didnt see your post earlier. Kent's cavern is not walkable from harbour in Torquay, you would need a bus or taxi. best fish and chips on the harbour, people keep telling me, is Rockfish. happy sailing! I've not been to the Torquay branch of this small chain of seafood restaurants but have been to the ones at Brixham and Weymouth. The food quality is very good but with what i think of as disproportionately high prices. I do like the idea that their fish (haddock) and chips comes with "unlimited" chips. But at £23.96 plus another three quid if you want the almost obligatory mushy peas its, frankly, just taking the piss.
