MamaParrotHead Posted March 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2006 Obviously when you book, the length of the cruise and the time of year has A LOT to do with it, but I wondered if the size and age of the ship factored in at all. Any thoughts?
jetskier Posted March 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2006 I am sure there are other factors such as port cost also. If you compare Mobile to NOLA, it is cheaper to sail out of Mobile. Length of cruise, on the Sensation in Nov 06, it is cheaper for the 5 day than the 4 day on certain cabins. A newer ship probably will fetch a higher price due to demand as well as a new itenary. Then you throw in holidays and such. I see your other thread got pulled. Must have been because of all the request for your PVP. Dave
MamaParrotHead Posted March 17, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 17, 2006 It kind of sucks for people who would be eligible. I wonder how much trouble I'd get in if I reposted, with a "I cannot give out the name of my PVP, and don't ask or the thread will be pulled" disclaimer??? Atleast I saved a few hundred bucks for some people while it did last.
TrustNoOneKMC Posted March 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 17, 2006 Quite a bit has to do with port of calls. I kept wondering why the Glory costs $200 more per person for an inside stateroom for Eastern Carribbean vs. $200 less for western. Same ship, both sailing out of port canaveral on saturdays, rotates iteneraries weekly. But the western goes to Key West, Belize, and Costa Maya, While the Eastern goes to Naussau, St. Thomas, and St. Martin.
serene56 Posted March 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2006 I was able to jump ship from Carnival and try Royal when the Voyager was selling for 200.00 less then any 7 day carnival cruise. (schocking) I think the time of year dictates the price then the ports. (I am able to do Destiny in Seot for under 500pp with a 3rd person at 279.) decr Posted March 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 17, 2006 Pricing theory is very simple. The prices will be determined by supply and demand. The cruise line will seek to set cabin prices to maximize the total revenue generated. They will set the price as high as possible to still fill up the ship. A new ship has higher demand and therefore higher prices. When the kids are out of school- like spring break, summer and Christmas- there is more demand and therefore higher prices. Alaska has a limited sailing season, so the demand is higher than the limited supply and the cruise line can charge more. It doesn't cost any more to operate Christmas week than 2 weeks later, but the prices are twice as high or higher. It is all based on demand. If you want the best price, go when everyone else can't. Many members don't realize that a post asking for OR offering to provide your TA/online site/PVP's name is a violation. Its those posts that get a thread pulled, not the original notice that there is a special available.

I've seen a bazillion explanations but none that made full sense or had clarity of definition...just wondering. He said that CVS are just like booking on the internet...their job really isn't to track your reservation and there's no guarantee that you'll ever call and get the same one twice. He said the PVP's job is to provide a more personal level of service and to keep an eye peeled for you (like mine who called me yesterday and saved our friends $242 pp on their reservation). serene56 Posted March 17, 2006 #14 Share Posted March 17, 2006 CVS-- cruise vacation specialist-- No really big difference-- in as much you need to do your homework before you book with either. EVEN PVPs sometimes never even been on a cruise.
memabumpee Posted March 17, 2006 #15 Share Posted March 17, 2006 We sailed Truimph 10-17 Dec 2005 Balcony 3 adults 1120. for 7 days. Just sailed Truimph 25 Feb -4 Mar 2006 Balcony 2 adults 1537 for 7 days, Flights were just as bad for the same time over double the cost in flight and they were terrible flights. I do not understand how they price and on what ship they offer Military discount etc. Oh well Happy Cruisin.
