SpiritRiver Posted September 18, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2023 Checking on whether any of you received special immunizations for a Viking Panama Canal cruise? I’ve had everything imaginable except for Yellow Fever so wondering if that is a concern. We’re not planning to go exploring on our own - Viking excursions only. Thanks! Vaccination requirements change on a regular basis, so what we experienced on a previous cruise may not be currently relevant. What you are doing pre/post cruise and any tours you are planning, regardless if shoreX or private, can also impact the requirements. Prior to any trip we visit a local travel medical clinic, providing the doctor with our itinerary and planned tours. Having spent 40 yrs at sea, I am vaccinated against almost everything, including YF, so they make recommendations for any booster I may require.
LuvCcruises Posted September 28, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2023 We are booked Panama to FL December 10th. On July 12/23, on the Viking "chat", I was told that "it looks like the Yellow Fever vaccination is no long(er) a requirement at all for your itinerary." and then was told to go to MVJ for pre-cruise requirements: the yellow fever requirement has been removed. Meander Ingwa Posted September 28, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Yellow Fever, etc, are dictated mostly by local government. The requirements can change. It is best to consult with a travel clinic. Many are attached to pharmacy. They will evaluate your itinerary, make sure requires and recommendations are discussed. They can also recommend OTC products to have and possibly give you Rx to have for bowel disorder or altitude sickness ( talking generalized not for Sea level trip)

Personally, when it comes to my health, I don't trust anyone but a professional medical doctor, especially one that specialises in travel medicine. I certainly wouldn't be talking to a customer service rep at a cruise line. Did the customer service rep ask what tours you are planning and any pre/post stays ashore, as they also impact any potential vaccinations you may require.
LuvCcruises Posted September 29, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2023 The customer service rep was only referring to what Viking requires. Prior to this, Honduras required Yellow Fever vax if you were coming from Panama to Honduras. This requirement has apparently been removed and is no longer on the Viking site. Of course this can change at any moment.
