Need Day Trip Recommendation from Anchorage

We have two full days in Anchorage with a car. One day we plan to explore Anchorage, but the other day we would like to take a day trip. We thought Seward as a possibility but would not do the Kenai Fjords due to major sea sickness issues. What would you recommend in Seward.

Instead of Seward, what else might be interesting to do as a day trip? We will be coming to Anchorage Talkeetna so would like to explore another area.

We are heading to Seward to visit Exit Glacier. You can hike up to the glacier itself without the need for a "tour" or boat ride.

There is plenty of information on the web on Exit Glacier if you are interested in more than the governments website.

The drive to Seward is breathtaking. In Seward, a visit to the Marine Life center is fun and you get a beautiful view of the Bay from the observation deck. Exit Glacier is just outside of Seward..you can visit on the way in or out of town. There is just a short walk up to the glacier. We spent maybe and hour to an hour and a half at each location. (Plus time to walk around Seward and have lunch.)

A visit to Portage Glacier may be nice also. We spent maybe an hour and a half (including boat tour) in Portage. I don't think your seasickness concerns would be an issue here as the lake is very small and I don't remember the boat rocking at all. You get unbelievably close to the glacier. You can't see it at all unless you take the boat. One of the cheapest excursions we took in Alaska.

Signs for all of these locations are very good and they were easy to find. This would be a very full day, but you could alter your stops as time allows. If nothing else, pack a picnic and stop at any of the many road-side pull-offs on the road to Seward. We could never get enough of the scenery.

A consideration perhaps would be to consult a MD on the motion sickness issue, there are plenty of excellent products to consider. No guarantees on the cruise ship either, since you are crossing the Gulf of Alaska.

If there is any interest in glacier trekking, http://www.micaguides.com offers a great day trip from Anchorage.
