denittta Posted October 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2023 Hello, we have book Cruise 7 days Mediteranian from Barcelona /04.06.2024 - 11.06.2024/ One day we have La Goulette 8 - 18:00. We do not want to reserve an excursion from the ship. I read that there are taxis that you can catch from the port, but first you agree on a price at their office. They write you some sort of receipt, you do your tour and you pay when they return you to the gate. Is the information up to date? We want to visit Carthage and Sidi Bou Said for a short walk. we will be 2 adults and 2 children. should I take a taxi and how much would it cost us? Wayfairers Posted October 27, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2023 I don’t know how much taxis are. We did a private excursion - 4 of us - to Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and the Medina a few days ago. We were able to see places in Carthage that the buses couldn’t go. I recommend a private tour so you know you will have an English speaking guide and you know he will be with you the entire day. denittta Posted October 27, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted October 27, 2023 Wayfairers, how much costs to you this private excursion? You book in advance, or you just find some office of excursion agents in the port?

woefiemax Posted November 1, 2023 #7 Share Posted November 1, 2023 We have just returned from a cruise with MSC Grandiosa & visited La Goulette. You don't have to book a tour, there are plenty of taxi's waiting at the port. We payed 40 euro for a taxi for the 2 of us. We have been to Sidi Bou Said first & then to Carthage, this site is very big with many stops, amphitheater, bathing houses, villages where they lived,... To far to walk to all these sites, but the taxi driver waited for us. The tour was +- 4-5 hours & the taxi driver spoke a little English. We payed after we finished the tour.
denittta Posted November 3, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted November 3, 2023 woefiemax this is a great information. My only concern is whether there will be enough taxis. Another thing I wanted to ask was whether you agreed directly with the taxi or is there some office and you negotiate the price from there>
Dochawk Posted November 4, 2023 #9 Share Posted November 4, 2023 On the Silver Nova we were just in La Goulette. The ship seemed to have a military escort as we came into harbor. I went to Carthage with the ship's tour (included in the cruise fare), which was interesting especially since Carthage is such a big part of my education in high school. But, the ruins have all been scavenged and except for the roman villas, not a lot is left. But some of our passengers went to a place called Dougga (2 hour drive from port). They did have a military escort, but the reviews were amazing "best roman ruins we have seen" (from a very experienced traveler, another person called them spectacular. You might want to research this place before deciding on Carthage.

woefiemax Posted November 5, 2023 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2023 Hi, there are enough taxis at the port, you can choose one. We talked to the taxi driver and he agreed with the price. They all ask around the same price. We only wanted to pay the taxi driver after the tour and not before, then we would now he was going to wait for us after our visits.
travellovers2 Posted February 25 #12 Share Posted February 25 We may take a Holland America cruise that has a stop in La Goulette. Is there anything to do/see in the terminal area? shops? restaurants?
churnchurnchurn Posted June 18 #13 Share Posted June 18 We will be there with HAL mid July from 7AM to 4PM - has any one taken a taxi to Bardo museum in addition to Siddi Bou and Carthage? And can you pay in euro or USD? Our plan is to hit up Siddi Bou first and walk around for ~1 hour then spend maybe ~2 hours on Carthage and ~1.5 hour at Bardo Museum. Not sure what to think about a taxi and hope they are there when we are done touring a place
