Amber Cove Taxis

Are taxis in Amber Cove reasonably priced and SAFE  or is it better to stick with ship excursions? We will be there in 2 weeks Thanks for any advice

It is very safe. Puerto Plata takes their tourism seriously. The extra "police" people see in town, at street crossings, etc. are actually a special tourism squad, there to assist, not shoot. 

 

Plus, almost all the mainstream lines have stops now in PP, with the two purpose build cruise ship hubs - Taino Bay and Amber Cove. It baffles me why people would think it unsafe.
