Lorenky Posted December 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2023 Hello. We are heavily considering a cruise in 2025 that has a port in Roatan. But I hadn’t realized the prevalence of malaria in this area. Does everybody take the malaria drugs ahead of their cruise if this is their port? That may be a dealbreaker for us. Thanks. Majjie Posted December 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2023 (edited) We are going to Roatan in March. I’m not very concerned. We will literally be in port for 1 day - like 8 hours total. Roatan is my co-workers fave vacation spot. She goes almost yearly for scuba diving for like a week. She doesn’t worry abt Malaria for an entire vacation, so I’m not going to stress it either. merinski Posted December 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2023 We are going in Jan. Not worried...are you going to be in marshy, mosquito areas? They say to have bug spray I guess, even for beaches, but that is for sand flies...
Guest 2000 Posted December 15, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2023 Malaria is in the mosquito population on the island. I recommend you research about the risks and symptoms to make an educated choice. If you don't want to take the CDC's advice, use a repellent that works well with your body chemistry.
Lorenky Posted December 15, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted December 15, 2023 Thanks. I think we’re changing our cruise to either Southern Caribbean or Mediterranean. We have time, this is for 2025. Thanks again.
