Possibly silly questions about casino certificates

Got and using my first free cruise soon.  What exactly is the "trade in value of $300"? Does that mean if we don't take what they offer as the free option for a date/cruise it's worth $300 towards something else?  Seems like a terrible trade off if that's the case.

Or does it mean give them the certificate back for $300?

Dh feels bad we're not taking dd so I inquired. Either we get a free 5 night interior (chosen for the date above all else, as it gives us a b2b for  two week stint on Liberty), or we take her and pay $1400 to do so on the 5 night portion. As if right now the average pp on the same cruise starts at $650. It feels like the second you try to change it, it loses enormous value (unless I'm thinking about it sideways).

$300 off any cruise.  No cash value.
