Third Party Excursion to Trunk Bay?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi all- I'll be traveling with a family of 9 including a toddler and are hoping to get to Trunk Bay when we dock in St Thomas in March with NCL. We'll be there from 9-7, but the NCL excursion is only about 4 hours including transportation there, and is also very expensive at $180 a person. Are there any outside vendors that provide the same "guided" transportation to and from Trunk Bay from the cruise port?

Thanks!

The third party excursion is to take a taxi from the ship to Red Hook and take the public ferry to St John.

With a group of your size, the taxi dispatcher at either dock can ensure that everybody is in the same taxi vehicle to Red Hook. Most of the taxi vehicles at the cruise docks accommodate 12+ so your group can fit in one. Whether they charge for infant needs to be settled before boarding the taxi since the government mandated taxi rates don't have rates for kids. Also, probably no baby carrier so be prepared to hold in arms and sit in middle of the bench.

BUY YOUR FERRY TICKETS ONLINE. If your phones work, you can buy round trip tickets on the way. That way you don't have to wait in line.

There will be plenty of taxis at St John dock. Just tell them where you want to go and how many.

You have lots of flexibility if you do it this way, and there will probably be plenty of others doing same thing. Check the Roll Call for your ship and sailing date.

Thanks! My only concern about doing DIY is getting back. I know getting taxi's near the port and ferry will be easy enough (hopefully) but are they around at Trunk Bay to get us back to the ferry when we're done?

Trunk Bay always has taxis waiting, and most will be taking people back to the ferry dock so they fill up quickly. Maho is another beach with a taxi stand, but it's further away than Trunk.

We just did this last week. Like others said we took taxi to Red Hook, bought ferry tickets online. Then taxi to Trunk Bay. Plenty of taxis waiting at Trunk Bay. It was a bit of a hassle and not cheap but pretty flexible with timing.
