taxi in New York

My question is -how hard is it to get a cab at the pier in New York? We are staying in New Jersey - just across the river the day before departure. I'm aware that it is no trouble to get a cab from the hotel (I would park at the hotel). However, I wonder about how hard it is to get a cab at the pier to go back to New Jersey (Secaucas).

 

I am aware of the ferry, but don't want to drag heavy bags from the ferry pier to the ship.

 

If it's a big hassel to get a cab at the New York Pier, I'll just park at the pier.

 

Last year we took the bus to the pier, it was wonderful. Only 13 people on the bus, so NCL canceled the bus (I agree with NCL that makes sense).

Cabs are everywhere!

There will be taxis at the pier. My experience from having sailed into New York three times is that the waiting time may range from nothing at all (eg., taxis sitting out front) to about 30 minutes. Just varies based on number of ships in ports, when you disembark, etc.

You may have a problem getting a NYC cabbie to take you to New Jersey because NYC cabbies cannot pick up fares in New Jersey. While a NYC cabbie cannot refuse to take you anywhere in NYC, they can refuse to take you to New Jersey. Vice versa, New Jersey cabbies cannot pick up fares in NYC.
