Freestyle - Restuarant Questions - HELP

 I will be sailing on POAm in May and I need a little help with the “Freestyle” system.

Which restaurants are free?

Which ones do you pay a premium at?

How much is the premium?

Can you book in advanced for all the restaurants (free and premium types)?

And finally when on board, where do you book reservations?

i haven't been on the POA but have done the dawn and the wind. if you go on NCL's website and look at your ships info you should be able to find that information. for those you have to pay for it should say surcharge. usually between 10 and 20 dollars per person. If you can't find it there maybe your travel agent knows.

all reservations will be made through each restaurant/dining room i believe. Usually done the first day of the cruise.

While I am not familiar with the Pride of America's restaurants, on most of NCL's ships the two main dining rooms and the large lido deck buffet are free. More than likely the sandwich shop is free too, along with room service(although you should tip the server for room service). The fancy French restaurant, and possibly a steak house, along with the Asian food restaurant are usually surcharged $10-$20 or so for each diner. Ordering surf and turf may cost more.

Since I don't like to pay more, and the food is good in the free restaurants, I usually stick with the two main dining rooms and the lido deck buffet.

like Don, I haven't been on any of the Hawaiian ships but this is pretty much the breakdown: 2 main dining rooms free

1 or 2 light fare free

Le Bistro $12 to $15.00

Asian restaurant most have various prices; $12-$25

probably Itanlian $12 to $15.00

plus of course the standard buffet. You will have no problem finding food and if you choose, you do not have to pay extra. I always advise trying at least 1 specialty eatern. You won't be sorry.

"Guests are allowed to wear blue jeans, shorts and t-shirts, in the evenings at the buffets, outdoor barbeques, and 24-hour venues, such as the Blue Lagoon, the Cadillac diner, etc. "

Great list but you need to make one change.

I'm SO sorry if this has been asked/ansered previously, electricron. But can you please tell us where you get the detailed dining info? Like others, I find ncl.com not very user-friendly, so if it is there somewhere, I'm sure I have missed it. I'll be glad to look up the list for my ship myself, if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction, please?

I would agree with all of the info from Electricron except that you DO need to make reservations for the Italian Restaurant. There is no surcharge...but the food is so good that it books up quickly. We were only able to dine there once during a 14 day cruise. (We were on the original voyage when they brought the POAm through the Panama Canal in 2005.)

I would highly recommend Teppanyaki, Little Italy, and the Lazy J Steakhouse. (We ate there twice: the filet mignon was the best I have ever had!)
