Carnival Airport Transfer to Galveston Cruise Port

My family is flying into IAH the day before our cruise out of Galveston.  I am finding that Houston hotels are at least $100 less than similar hotels in Galveston for the week we are cruising.  Has anyone taken the Carnival transport to the Port of Galveston the day of your cruise?  If so, how was your experience?  Would you do it again?
