We are in Seattle again and boy is it delightful to stay on the ship while most everyone else has to disembark!

They requested B2B Retreat passengers meet in the Retreat Lounge at 9:15am.   We didn’t want to fight the crowds trying to get breakfast and then off the ship, so we hung out in our cabin until then.  Once we got to the lounge, several disembarking passengers were still waiting to leave.  There were drinks and the latte machine was running.  There wasn't any food out, which wasn’t unexpected. but I sure could have used a caramel croissant.  lol.

image.thumb.jpeg.991d9f99b40a140580d9b8efba30cd4d.jpeg

There were 2 other couples in the Retreat doing a B2B, and we were told about 60 people total on the ship were staying on for the next cruise.

After about half an hour, Inrich, one of the the Reteat concierges told us to follow him out to the gangway where they collected our old seapass cards, took new photos, gave us new ones and beeped us back onto the ship.  We were instructed to hang out in the retreat for another hour or so until our rooms were ready.

It was no hardship.  It was a gorgeous day in Seattle and we were able to sit out on the Retreat deck area.  When official boarding started, we went back to our room, which is the same one as last cruise.

Apparently our butler felt bad about the whole WhatsApp debacle last week and was appreciative that we were so low maintenance.  No cheap swill for us this sail away!

We were happy to have another Embarkation lunch in Luminae, back with our waiter, Ciara, and assistant waiter Caio.  The menus in Luminae will be a repeat of last week, so I'm not going to post them again if they are a duplicate.

Ross repeated his order prawn ceviche, a creamy lobster roll and the lumina signature burger.

image.thumb.jpeg.b6611f8b17a78f1919c14def157aa2de.jpeg

The lobster roll was improved with significantly less mayo than last time.

image.thumb.jpeg.1fb58433b71aedefc6313bc90379365d.jpeg

The french fries that come with the signature burger are supposed to be truffle fries, and they decidedly were not.   We had noticed this last week too, but this time we asked Ciara about it and she replaced them with new ones that actually had some (but not a lot of) truffle flavor.

image.thumb.jpeg.c2b35cd94e226f4a39f35a605bb5363c.jpeg

I repeated my Kale Salad order, but this time it actually had some pistachio dust, if not actual nuts on it.  🙂

image.thumb.jpeg.a465bf1ea915863ac5e2fb6e5036c977.jpeg

For a change, this time I ordered the Bronzino with Eggplant Caponata.

image.thumb.jpeg.690714555bb712b0a96334b540eac97f.jpeg

This was really good.  The fish was very crisp on the outside and flaky on the inside.  The caponata was tangy.  The basil vinaigrette was herby and flavorful.  Very good.

For dessert we split the apple berry crumble and it was just as good as we remembered.

It was warm and sunny out so we decided to hit the Sunset Bar.  It was a completely different vibe than last week.  Tons of people were there, sitting outside and enjoying themselves.

image.thumb.jpeg.dc609701bc4da749d7495ba6c3003569.jpeg

Ross got a Beyond Signature.image.thumb.jpeg.48fa2f96b5437158e7ce394e2531dacd.jpeg

We thought this one was really good.  It had a slightly exotic fruit flavor and a nice sweet & sour balance.  [Cocktail Rating: 8.5/10]

I got the Marrakesh Mule.

image.thumb.jpeg.c7889026f9e3a3cd3b7b3fede6c08dfd.jpeg

I loved this!  It was sweet and bright with a pronounced lavender aroma.  Even Ross agreed it was a good drink and he's not usually a fan of lavender (or as he calls it: soap) flavor.  [Cocktail Rating 9/10 from Shannon, 8/10 from Ross]

There were several people in the pool.

image.thumb.jpeg.dbb2f0e467e0101f2bfad9669d57a750.jpeg

We moved up to the Retreat Sun Deck which was also very busy.

image.thumb.jpeg.c968fe163d8c1f747558f3518cff3604.jpeg

This cruise seems so different from the last one already.  It's a lot louder and more boisterous.   We met many new people and talked to them for several hours on the sundeck before sail away.

We enjoyed a pina colada.image.thumb.jpeg.fc5f4f87c25f3f9693939a2635e2d60e.jpeg

People were lined up along the rails for Sail Away this time, although there was still no official Sail Away party.

image.thumb.jpeg.6f2d333c319adf6565bbde6a48c131d8.jpeg

Luminae is usually packed the first night so we went to the Rooftop Garden Grill for dinner instead tonight.  We ended up getting a discount since it was Embarkation Day.

image.thumb.jpeg.4de9d0d52b23dfaf743bf851f1851e35.jpeg

The cocktails at the Rooftop Grill are the same ones as at the Sunset Bar.  Ross ordered a Slim and Spicy Margarita.

image.thumb.jpeg.7e4375669d52fc15e5807b9a7d0254a0.jpeg

It wasn't very sweet, but was somewhat spicy.  I can see how someone might really love this, but we just thought it was okay.  [Cocktail Rating: 5/10]

For my appetizer, I ordered Crispy Cauliflower with spiced ground lamb.

image.thumb.jpeg.c05019692048abb2c5f2fca16130a47e.jpeg

This had a slightly Mediterranean flavor.  The lamb was mildly spicy.  The cauliflower was good but the lamb was very heavy for an appetizer and it was difficult to eat.

Ross ordered smoked chicken Wings with a dry rub.

image.thumb.jpeg.c1e7daa2f431c43c4b0f675a55e6a4f8.jpeg

These tasted exactly like they had BBQ Potato chip flavoring on them... which is a little unusual on wings, but is pretty tasty.

I ordered the Watermelon and feta Salad with Kalmata Olives, Cucumber Pine Nuts, Mint and Olive Oil.

image.thumb.jpeg.968beb236720942cc4c5f3a2682b1fbe.jpeg

There were no olives, no mint and no pine nuts, but there were a lot of red onions.  Nevertheless, it was a good salad.  Watermelon and salty feta is a classic pairing for a reason.

Ross ordered the Caprese Salad.

image.thumb.jpeg.459520a9714db91253dd30241c46225c.jpeg

The tomatoes were so under-ripe, this should have probably just been taken off the menu.  Not good.

image.thumb.jpeg.c1bab8eafe3feac7a8252368a8cdfd8f.jpeg

For his main, Ross ordered the Grilled Filet Mignon.

image.thumb.jpeg.ad94c228fced72d225166c4670c25e3d.jpeg

The center was cooked slightly over his requested medium-rare, but was very tender.  A bigger issue was the outside was slightly charred and had a slightly bitter charcoal flavor.

I ordered the Ribeye.

image.thumb.jpeg.c24c9dbdb977fd5ce5ddf543e8e621d8.jpeg

It was a really thin cut, which makes it difficult to cook well, but it was okay.  There was a rub flavor on the meat that I didn't appreciate.  Or maybe they need to clean their grill better.

We ordered "The Cookie" for dessert and it didn't disappoint.

image.thumb.jpeg.f4d6faeaae63c8e44b7e454a804c555a.jpeg

The cookie is served hot from the oven, but the center is still a little bit doughy.  The cold ice cream pairs perfectly with the rich cookie.  The cookie is the real reason we ate here.  I don't think the rest of the food is really worth the upcharge.

After dinner, we made it to the last half of comedian Monique Marvez's show.

image.thumb.jpeg.dc667697e48a4902b89539ff20d3f0b5.jpeg

She was pretty good and had a few astute bits about relationships that were good.  Her tagline was "Not Blond.  Not Skinny", which we thought was funny since those things both applied to the comedian last week.

We played in the game show "True or False"  which is fun.  They ask questions and if you think the answer is true, you move to the right side of the room.  If you think it is false, you move to the left side of the room.  The winners stay and this repeats until they are down one person.  It was nice to get to play and not just watch the game show.

image.thumb.jpeg.07a2715928042f5cdff61876528fe68d.jpeg

The we stayed for the Pub Quiz.

image.thumb.jpeg.d694275d136e9c41d9be025708c5a78e.jpeg

We had a good group and even got to play with fellow cruise critic poster @ponygirl.

Ross and I closed out the night in Eden.  I ordered a Cloud.

image.thumb.jpeg.3431fdbd3cce18d6942d1214bc970e0c.jpeg

I don't know why, but I thought this was going to be a hot drink.  It  was served cold.  The picture made it look foamy and it wasn't.  It was sort of like lemony ice tea.  The rose flavor was extremely mild.  It was okay [Cocktail Rating; 6/10]

Ross ordered a Pina.

image.thumb.jpeg.55688cfb3056b6eb4aef96c8ccc077a1.jpeg

This was slightly better than average, but made us want a real pina colada.  [Cocktail Rating 6.5/10]

We played some Set.  This is one game that I can fairly consistently beat Ross in so I'm always asking if he wants to play. lol.

image.thumb.jpeg.1e081f418358dbea3ae68ca86f17d59e.jpeg

We hid a duck.

image.thumb.jpeg.2b951ab4615cc38fe962c60f37ac8691.jpeg

Goodnight!

Goodnight!

Thank you for all of this.  I think we will try Raw on 5 on embarkation day, then sit by the pool, and I’m hoping for the Magic Carpet or Sunset Bar for sail away.  What time did sail away happen both times?  Interior space temperatures? Please excuse all my questions.

will this be a new itinerary or a repeat?

Was interesting to see the Daily  pr  theme "Nothing Comes Close" with a  photo of a mature cruiser....touch of gray! Wonder if that depiction   will change based on itins and ships..??

I think sail away happened earlier on the first leg at around 4pm.  The second leg we didn’t actually sail away until 5:30pm

Interior spaces seem comfortable to me with a light jacket.  Neither Ross nor I have been too warm in any interior space, although I generally run cold.

Same exact itinerary.  Although we plan to do fewer excursions this time.

The demographic is definitely skewing younger.  Lots of cruisers seem to be 40-60 y/o.  Quite a few families with teenagers.  Not too many young kids.

We started with a delightfully late sleep in and lattes for breakfast and then headed to the actual Movie Poster Trivia!  Last time I was foiled by a mis-labeled "Fun with Flags Trivia" instead.

Do they mix up the trivia questions each time?  Is it unfair for me to give away an answer?  I feel like I should reward people who are reading my blog.  lol.

Only one group got the correct answer for this poster:

image.thumb.jpeg.abb5dbdf5b5ddcce69f63f8d4bf27a46.jpeg

We headed to the Retreat Lounge for a game of Patchwork, a great 2-player game that we've been playing a lot of lately.   Each player takes turns buying pieces to create their quilt, and the winner is essentially the one who leaves the fewest spaces empty at the end.  Ross always wins this one.

image.thumb.jpeg.695b959fc5cdc30778fde7f2eb2d3aee.jpeg

After our game, it was time for lunch.  Last week we had eaten lunch on the first sea day in the Eden Cafe, so we decided to try out Luminae this time.

image.thumb.jpeg.1f96f2f50a43de4b01eef6e50b3656e6.jpeg

Ross ordered the Broiled Feta salad with arugula, asparagus, fresh peas and minted pesto.

IMG_6700.thumb.JPG.6295d825b330f0425920ebe51ccdca8f.JPG

Back home there is a great Greek restaurant that serves a broiled feta appetizer.  It is so melty and delicious and was what Ross was envisioning when he ordered this.  There was absolutely nothing broiled in this salad, especially not the feta.  Ross actually asked Ciara if it was supposed to be broiled.  She said, "Oh, no.  Not the feta, but the vegetables."   Ross barely stopped himself from asking, "Specifically which vegetables are broiled in it, then?"  We just smiled and nodded.

I ordered the Cream of Parsnip Soup.

IMG_6699.thumb.JPG.942fb8d61c5ae649072784ec896ad683.JPG

I loved this soup.  It must have had some potato in it because I've made parsnip soup before and it's usually fairly sweet, but this just had a very subtle parsnip flavor. The chopped apples on the crouton were great too.

We also split the Frisée Lettuce Salad with Poached Egg and Pancetta.

image.thumb.jpeg.f0de7e29f48aeb762634aebdbec19115.jpeg

Good, except the egg was overcooked.  Almost jammy this time at least.

For my main, I ordered the Grilled Petit Filet Mignon with Celriac Purée and Baby Vegetables.

IMG_6703.thumb.JPG.fb5d90429f437cb959bd5f2bbcf294bd.JPG

Since I'm from Kansas City, I don't usually order steak on a cruise ship.  This was very good, however.  I liked it much, much better than the steaks from our meal at the Rooftop Grill last night.  It was cooked closer to medium than medium-rare, but was still tender and juice.  I would definitely recommend this for a lunch option.

Ross ordered the Cajun Shrimp Po Boy with Soft Baguette and Homemade Potato Chips.

image.thumb.jpeg.2da36af5d04bbca177f5911b13b8203e.jpeg

What a let-down and if those chips are "homemade", I'll eat my hat.  Homemade, if you count opening a bag of lays and putting them on a plate.  In addition the "soft" baguette was so tough, Ross couldn't tear it with his teeth.  And the shrimp were clearly not freshly fried, boarding on cold.  I can see how this might be good if prepared correctly, but it was not.

We also ordered a Vegetable Stir Fry "Pancit" with Rice Noodles and Cabbage.

IMG_6705.thumb.JPG.78af195bc6679adacbadaef03c94d9c2.JPG

This was very light on the veggies - all of them were the top of the dish like a garnish.   Besides the stated cabbage, the only vegetables were carrot, onion and the green end of a scallion.  It had a good sour-sweet flavor, but was extremely heavy on the noodles for a dish named "Vegetable Stir-Fry".

For dessert, Ross had the White Chocolate Mousse with Lemon Shortcake and Strawberries.

image.thumb.jpeg.067ff0a01cf596787f95f6d0d49dceb9.jpeg

Really good.  The strawberries were a touch under-ripe, but went well with the sweet mousse.  I would have liked more balsamic sauce.

Since Ross ordered the mousse, I took one for the team and ordered the Butternut Squash Pudding.

image.thumb.jpeg.d32bb47fa729b14a3156755183a0fddc.jpeg

I don't particularly like squash or bread in my dessert, but thought I'd give it a try.  The vanilla ice cream and oranges were good.  lol.

After lunch, we hung out in Eden for a while.

image.thumb.jpeg.d472510a8bd4a15cb7d7e4a0b0bc9a57.jpeg

Just outside of Eden, we found a comfortable chair.  Believe me when I say this is a notable experience.   It doesn't look it, but the orange pad offered some back support.  This will forever be known as the "Cruise without Lumbar Support".

image.thumb.jpeg.73067dfaa60f8a93a7ed346b36016b77.jpeg

The Edge has a strange layout and you have to zig-zag a bit to make it from the Bow to the Aft.  One of the more annoying sections is an always a trip through the "Art" hallway where salespeople try to engage you.

image.thumb.jpeg.f1477fa608ade8ebdb490465bc66b822.jpeg

We went back to the room to get cleaned up for Evening Chic night.  The elevators have mirrors and make for a good location for a full length selfie.  lol.

image.thumb.jpeg.b3407b14cda0f15ec7173d01be38fed8.jpeg

It was still quite a while until dinner so we figured a scoop of ice cream would make a good snack to hold us.   They had cinnamon which is my favorite flavor! 🙂

image.thumb.jpeg.fae8bd764f59072bf1227ac718c322fc.jpeg

They had a waffle station at the buffet tonight!

image.thumb.jpeg.090f352006d6186baca7a2ac31bc11cc.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.7049d679e73101e43e2bcef6b56fdb74.jpeg

Also some sort of sausage station.

image.thumb.jpeg.0564b021c5679f81b5ec70f1efe456cd.jpeg

Back to Eden for cocktails and more games before dinner.  Ross ordered a Shaman.

image.thumb.jpeg.6832956cd7f295681c6afe6622630e14.jpeg

This drink was on fire.  No, literally, it was _on_ fire.  It was served with a burning cinnamon stick which took quite some time to go out.  It tasted kind of like a screwdriver and was flat tasting for all the fan fair.  [Cocktail Rating: 4/10]

Ross, calculating how to beat me in Patchwork again.

image.thumb.jpeg.8272a270ca14a2a0d8118db5e5a50198.jpeg

Johnny Bourke, the guitarist in Eden is fantastic.  He played a set of mostly beautiful (and one raunchy) Irish songs.  He seems very versatile and has a lovely voice.  I have overheard several other guests talking about how much they like him, too.

We like to eat late (around 8:30-8:45pm) at Luminae because there are generally less people, especially at the beginning of the cruise.  Evening Chic night is usually especially busy.

The amuse bouche was a pesto martini(?).  I think that's what the server said, but sometimes it is hard to understand.

Great tomato flavor and the pesto was salty and delicious.

For a starter, Ross ordered the Traditional Beef Tartar.

This was the worst looking beef tartar I've ever seen.  Why was it gray!?  Did they let it sit out too long?  Ross took only one bite and said it didn't taste bad but was rather mediocre.  I didn't eat any, just in case I had to take care of someone with food poisoning later.

Ross also ordered a Slow Poached Lobster, so he didn't starve from a lack of appetizer.  lol.

The lobster was good as usual, although definitely not a cold water (Maine) version.

I ordered Jerusalem Artichoke Soup.

Luminae seems to do these cream soups very well and this one was fantastic  I love Jerusalem artichokes, but have to be very careful with them because they can cause gastric distress.  (And not just for me.  It's a common problem.  You have been warned. lol.)

For my main course, I ordered the Roasted Ribeye Steak with Rutabaga Purée, Baby Vegetables and Bearnaise Sauce.

image.thumb.jpeg.fd4cf3b0dbc4a6c39776b9e35bfd851a.jpeg

This wasn't so much a steak as a roast. It did have a nice crust on the outside and a good beefy flavor, although it wasn't as good as my fillet for lunch.  The vegetables were decidedly not "baby".  The béarnaise was the typical salty brown sauce they seem to be serving on many of the dishes.

Ross ordered the Pan Seared Red Snapper.

The snapper was a really great creative dish.  The snapper itself was cooked well and the carrot-orange ginger puree was both sweet and savory.  The Sambal Goring Teri spice mixture was very spicy and cruchy.  We loved it, but it might be too hot (spicy) for many people.

I got the Marscpone Cheesecake with Pistachio Nougatine and Yuzu Brown Butter and Apricot Sorbet for dessert.

IMG_6765.thumb.JPG.e9d6038c3898c86db5af149724d990e1.JPG

These cheesecake balls were perhaps too large.  The ratio to cheesecake filling and the outside crust was too high.  The sorbet was great!  The ice creams and sorbets have been consistently good.

Ross ordered the Chocolate Palette with Caramel Gelato.

IMG_6764.thumb.JPG.e07a2b9082b74e3cde47b10a53a0bb9e.JPG

This was okay, but seemed heavy on the geletin.  The gelato was excellent, but there was't nearly enough caramel sauce to go with all the chocolate.

After dinner, we headed back to Eden.

I ordered a Pea cocktail.

IMG_6778.thumb.JPG.112e321a4d7d0950af0f94747c656755.JPG

This one was weirdly good, and it looked just like its photo!  Who would have thought that a drink would be improved by the smell of garden peas?  But yet, here we are.  [Cocktail Rating: 6.5/10]

Ross ordered the Garden.

The aroma of the greenery was really pleasant as I took a sip.  The drink itself was a little too sour and not sweet enough for either of our tastes.  [Cocktail Rating: 4/10]

While I was blogging, Ross finally beat my score at the iPhone game Threes.

My family high score of 61,425 had stood for months.  Ross has been playing daily to try to beat me.

We'll see how long his new score stands.  🙂

If you want to do some late night partying on this ship...

... you are probably out of luck.  This was The (deserted) Club around 12:30 am when we headed to bed.

Goodnight!

There wasn't any food out, which wasn’t unexpected. but I sure could have used a caramel croissant.  lol.

Can you name the Luminae Maitre'd, Host/Hostess and Sommelier. Thanks.

I’m cracking up over the cocktail ratings…my takeaway is to stick to what’s covered under the premium package and perhaps do some ratings on those when we are on Edge later this summer.  We are pretty adventurous but I think I’d be annoyed to pay the up charge for a 4/10 😂

This is what I had on the one night we dined in Luminae. I don't have a photo of what I had but it looked nothing like this! It was 4 or 5 pieces of fish swimming in sauce. I was so disappointed as I expected a full piece of fish.

Your photography is excellent but I must say that almost nothing from Luminae looks appetizing in photos....even desserts! That one chocolate/raspberry/licorice? one looked a little like 💩

Yes!  Maître’d is Ugur.  Nia is the Hostess and Melvin is the Sommelier.

The descriptions are lacking and often flat out inaccurate.  And our waiter does not do a very good job bridging the difference. Franky, I get the feeling she doesn’t like food very much.

Also, I remember having some of these dishes on a previous sailing (pre-Covid) and they were very different.   I think maybe the kitchens are given a lot of latitude with preparation and ingredients - which on one hand might add some nice variety if you sailed Celebrity often, but on the other hand, makes it difficult to know what you are going to get.

Sorry, I just remembered you asked about this, and I forgot to reply after I found out the answer.  It’s Joana.
