Kotor Cable Car

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been on the cable car near Kotor? If so, did you take a taxi to the base station in Dub or is there a local bus that goes there? If you took a taxi, do you recall how much it cost and will it wait for you to do a round trip on the cable car? We’ve been to Kotor before and looking for something a little different. So far, I can’t see anything on here that refers to the cable car. Thanks!

Since we really like that area (we have rented cars in Kotor) you got my curiosity.  We have driven out to the area of Dub, but never even looked (or were interested) in a cable car.  But it looks like a taxi would cost about 10-12 Euros (each way),   Cannot find any info on a local/regional bus between Kotor and Dub.

Keep in mind that with a rental car, you could easily drive to the Dub area and perhaps later more on to some other places such as Budva.  You can also work your way from place to place, using taxis, but you are at the mercy of finding a taxi in the more remote towns.

Thanks for the advice re rental cars Hank. That wouldn’t have even crossed my mind. Still in two minds about doing the cable car or perhaps using public transport to Perast but we could probably do both with a car. 😁

Our first visit we explored Kotor itself, on our second we went along to Perast. We took the public bus both ways  between Kotor and Perast, or you could take a taxi one or both ways and a bus the other.

Perast is teeny tiny but pretty, so lovely for a little walk around. The boatmen who can take you accross to Our Lady are easily found on the waterfront and afterwards you could sit and enjoy a coffee or beer at one of the waterfront cafe bars enjoying the views. We had a lovely time doing these things and still had time for a second brief walk around Kotor on return.

I think it just opened last fall.

Apparently there is now a shuttle bus service to the cable car, specifically designed for cruise ship passengers:

https://kotorcablecarshuttlebus.com/

I found this when I was researching how to get to the cable car, as we will be in Kotor on a cruise this coming September. I do not know anything about it, and cannot find any reviews for it. It is on my list of possible activities for our trip. I have been on the lookout for comments from people who have used this service.

Wow is this a recent addition.  I was there in 2019 and don't remember seeing this.  We took a private tour which was amazing but definitely would have added this in.  Kotor was the most amazing port to sail into - can't wait to try and do it again one day.

UPDATE: I followed the recommendation to try the Kotor Cable Car Shuttle Service above. I completed the online form and was contacted a few days later to confirm the booking. I re-confirmed closer to the date by way of reminder and got a prompt reply. Our driver, Novak, was waiting for us as expected near the port. He drove us to the cable car station, bought the tickets and escorted us to the entry gate. He waited in the cafe at the bottom while we took our journey to the top of the mountain. The views were spectacular both on the cable car ride and at the top. We took a ride on the rollercoaster too. Don’t expect a thrill ride but it was fun for an extra 7 Euros. There is also a restaurant, gift shop, kids’ playground and toilets at the top. On our return the driver took us through the mountains and stopped at a viewpoint overlooking the bay for more photos. We were dropped back at the port car park and paid in cash at the end. Do check if they take card payment though (which we didn’t!) as I think the driver had a card reader. It was definitely worth doing this trip and there was time for a wander round the old town afterwards.
