MoBro713 Posted June 9 #1 Share Posted June 9 We have a cruise departing from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in October. We are not using Regent air. It’s 15 days so we will have two large bags. Getting on Amtrak in Boston shouldn’t be a problem, but I’m concerned about arriving at NYC Penn Station with two large bags and getting a cab to the cruise terminal. Any thoughts? Would we be better off flying from Logan to LaGuardia? Thanks
Marylebone37 Posted June 9 #2 Share Posted June 9 You will have no problem at all getting transport from the train station. Uber in NYC is also a great option. The cruise terminal is a 10 minute drive (or less depending upon day of the week and time of day).
PaulaJK Posted June 9 #3 Share Posted June 9 The line for taxi hire is outside the Penn door. It moves quickly. However, do be aware that luggage carts and porter services are not available at Penn, if that is a factor for you. LaGuardia would offer these services but be a longer taxi ride. Rare ysolde Posted June 9 #4 Share Posted June 9 If you have a disability or other mobility impairment, Amtrak will offer assistance from the train to the taxi stand. You just need to let them know ahead of time, and then let them know again when you arrive in Boston. Otherwise, yes, it may be easier to fly to LGA. JSOL1 Posted June 9 #5 Share Posted June 9 We’re in Boston and always prefer Amtrak over flying. Either Taxi or Uber (our preference) is outside Penn. Shouldn’t be a problem unless you have mobility issues and as ysolde said assistance is available. First class on Amtrak is worth it in our opinion, especially with a lot of luggage. one other thing to note is that we’ve become more comfortable over our last couple of cruises with packing less and relying on Regent for laundry. We were hesitant at first, but they do a great job.
Michyfis Posted June 10 #6 Share Posted June 10 From Boston, you can take the Acela which is a bit faster and a bit more expensive. The new Penn station is quite easy to get around. The big plus is that you arrive in town as opposed to the airport where traffic can be horrendous depending on time of day. I take the train whenever I go To NYC from New England.
Rare ysolde Posted June 10 #7 Share Posted June 10 We used to take the Acela First Class between NYC and Boston and it was easy and comfortable. Depending on how early you purchase your tickets and the time of day and the day of the week you are traveling, First Class can be relatively reasonable. We think it is worth it, given the level of service on board.
CardowMD Posted June 13 #8 Share Posted June 13 You can also get red hat porter service that will handle luggage.
