You seem like independent folk, so in case you're interested there are frequent buses from just outside the Port of Gruz gates (assuming that's where you're docked).

 

The bus lines 1a 1b and 6 all go to Pile Gate which is the main entry from that direction into the old town.

 

Tickets are €1.79 and you can pay by card in the news kiosk at the bus station before exiting the gates to walk to the bus stop (2 mins) or on the bus itself (I'dbe inclined to get the tickets for both directions at the kiosk in case of any on the bus issues with a foreign card!).

 

The NCL shuttle bus works but is an absolute zoo at times and uses the same stop at Pile for the return journey. 

 

We were so glad we used the local bus when we were returning to the port and saw the long long line for the NCL shuttle, and it is always fun to use local transport too.

 

Or you could check if the shuttle is eligible for shore excursion credit which would make it a lot less exorbitant.

So I need to hit the ShoreX desk soon; B booked us a rather pricey NCL tour in Santorini, and both our tickets were placed on her account, which also means we didn’t get the $50 credit… OH, and she apparently booked a Spanish tour? Dios Mio…. anyway, the hours are really limited the rest of the way, I may see if Guest Services can help instead…
