Where there mosquitos?  Did you need a net?

They are not mosquitos (flies) and do not bite but they can be irritating.  They can also be found in Iceland.  It is primarily luck whether you experience them or not, but some who did found the headnets helpful to wear..

This thread has multiple posts on the topic scattered throughout, also info and suggestions for Qaqortoq.

Forgot to "quote" you in post above, so just in case you are not "following" either, this to alert you to it.😀

A PS for anyone with Nuuk on their itinerary. Threads where the word NUUK can be found are here

There were none when we were there in August. We had these nets that we'd purchased for another trip just in case.  They are inexpensive and tiny to carry.

@AZaTaz what are the temperatures like? Seriously looking at booking this for next August!

My notes tell me that the average expected high in Nuuk was 46 and 54 in Nanortalik and Qaqortoq when we were there in late August. It can be very cold on the water, especially on a fast-moving boat, but it was pretty pleasant walking around town, especially when the sun was shining.

We both had Northface 3 in 1 Triclimate jackets along with fleeces, gloves and hats. It was still cold enough with all of that to move inside the boat on the way back to the port when we did the Wildlife Safari in Nuuk. The RIB boat tour in Quaqortoq with Greenland Sagalands included survival suits to wear so it was easy to stay warm.

There's a fur store in Qaqortok if smuggling endangered species' products home appeals to you.

this was raised in post #5, but for anyone tempted there was actually a thread on the topic and worth reading should you be planning an itinerary with Greenlandic ports. This one

Took some videos on Nanortalik and Qaqortoq last year. These two ports are very small and one easily do your own walking tours.Iceberg or boat tours by local are also available near the tender pier.

Also important for me is info on public toilets/restrooms etc.

Here is our youtube video of Qaqortoc in 2022. This should give you some idea of what it is like there! I hope you enjoy it.

Giving a current update from a Volendam passenger which made it into port yesterday. AQs it was a second visit one or two changes were noticed between then and now and I thought to share in case of interest to others.

(quoting from message)

The free museum is now $10.  No dancers or costumed locals this time either  The   fish market was still open though and the Man and Rock art trail is still challenging There were fewer "ladies selling crafts from tables" but more opportuniies to buy" Made in China"

There were some flies but not enough to make me get out the hat and bug net, but I didn’t go to the lake, either.  Most of the folks coming back from there did have their nets on, so I suspect they got worse around the lake path. The pretty wild flowers were spectacular again and a lovely match to the coloured homes.
