Crikey, we are UK based but have only cruised with an American line mainly, from the States over the last 10 years or so, and the above is not our expectations or our experience. 

 

Things must be different between US/UK lines but as long as the service is friendly, as we enjoy the opportunity to get to know the bar staff and our waiters over the course of the cruise, we will be happy first time P & O cruisers and will act accordingly.

I've sailed with both US lines both from the USA and Europe, and (more often) with P&O from the UK. There is a difference between the two tipping cultures on board. I don't particularly notice any difference in the attitude or politeness of the staff. As I said tipping bar staff per drink is not expected (or even catered for). But feel free to tip whoever you think deserves it at the end of the cruise.
