Rare PaddleAddict Posted August 1 #1 Share Posted August 1 For our upcoming Mexican Riviera cruise, I'm considering using Verizon's international plan TravelPass for $10/day versus having to buy a week of internet through Carnival. I hope I am thinking correctly that we will be able to use data and cell while on the ship as long as the ship is in port? I realize we won't have any internet while at sea, but that should be sufficient for our needs.
Destiny0315 Posted August 1 #2 Share Posted August 1 If you already have one of Verizon's unlimited plans you already have free data, call, and text roaming within North America! I have used it recently when cruising in Atlantic Canada and in the Mexican Riviera. https://upgradedpoints.com/travel/verizon-international-phone-plans/

So, you had no trouble on the ship when in port? My husband is wondering if there is something that blocks you or forces you to go through the ship if you're physically on the ship.

Not that I remember as long as you take your phone off of Airplane mode, and put it back into that mode when sailing again.
Rare notscb Posted August 1 #5 Share Posted August 1 The mexico cruises are great, IMO, in that you can certainly use your own data plan when in port if you have an Unlimited plan (it's already included). Travelpass is for non-mexico and canada travel so you shouldn't have any surprise bills so long as you turn your phone on airplane mode while away from port (and I mean the minute your ship is scheduled to depart). YMMV, but the speed when I went to Ensanada was good in some areas and not so good in others. Data in Puerto Vallarta worked very well when we were there.
