Utopia of the Seas Forward Facing Ocean view Stateroom (Helipad)

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

We just returned from an amazing trip on Utopia this morning. When we booked this trip, we secured an Ocean View Guarantee stateroom. When we received the room assignment, I was a bit nervous. DH and I typically sail in Balconies, but since this was a new ship, and this is what the Casino decided to give us, we embraced it....I mean, its a brand new ship, how bad could it be?

For reference, we were assigned room 7102. This is a forward facing Ocean View on the same deck as the Helipad. I scoured the internet, and found NOTHING about this cabin, or any others on deck 7. So, I thought I would pay it forward and share some thoughts about this type of cabin for others who may be considering.

To preface, I will say, overall our experience was a good one. The room was HUGE. Cavernous almost. It is laid out like most other categories. Lots of storage, huge shower (compared to other ships), wonderful barely slept on beds, and a very strange window....of and TON of wasted space. Because you are all the way forward on the ship, the cabin ceiling slants pretty drastically, especially on this deck. The window is a good size, and has automatic window coverings that you and control to go up or down. They request the window be covered at night to prevent light pollution to the bridge.

Between the bed and the window, you could EASILY fit another entire bed, couch, table and chairs, even loungers, however it is just empty space. This did make the room seem much more open, but I just feel like RCL missed out on a unique opportunity to maximize the space.

When docking, or leaving dock, you will certainly feel the bow thrusters doing there thing. DH wasn't bothered by it, and didn't even wake up. However, if you are sensitive, like apparently I am, you will hear it, you will feel it, and it may bother you.

The only other opinion I will share, is the view itself. I don't know if its fair to call this an Ocean View, as....you can barely see the ocean. You do have wonderful views of the Helipad, and it is certainly a very unique view. However...water...pushing it.

So would I book this type of room again. Yes, I think so. I would say, especially if you have kinds, and perhaps a pack and play to put in that empty space. Or grab some blankets and lay on the floor looking out the window...

Oh...it also has the tiniest nightstand I have ever seen :-)

Also, Utopia is amazing, so if you have any questions at all...I will do my best to answer. I hope this little review helps someone in booking their next RCL cruise!

I've stayed in a Navigator & Allure fwd facing OV, and the photo you show here between the bed and the window is much deeper than the cabins I stayed in... maybe Utopia has a deeper angle?

These types of posts, with photos, are super helpful for everyone to learn on this forum.

Thx for sharing  👍

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. My husband and I are sailing in cabin 9500 on November 18. I believe that our cabin also has the bed by the window. Hopefully we wiil have a little better view being two decks up. Totally agree that some chairs and a small table would make a nice addition to the room as there is definitely space.

We were on Symphony in the 95XXs and did have more of an oceanview than it appears you get on 7 (we were a bit more towards the side than 9500 which looks to be in the middle).

I had thought a drying rack would be great in the extra space, but I wouldn't want to drag one around.

Our room steward said there have been people that got a call to close their blinds at night from the bridge, but it didn't come up for us.

One very minor note for these rooms, we happened to have a helicopter rescue required on our cruise.  The crew will evacuate these front facing cabins during the rescue, and a crew member is posted outside the cabins to keep people from re-entering.  I would guess it was maybe an hour (we were at lunch when the rescue was announced and then went up to the pool deck after finding we couldn't get back to our room, so it didn't bother us at all).

I would happily book these rooms again.

Oh well just know on Oasis and Quantum class ships, the crew bar is located in the front under the helipad.  And even up on higher decks one can heard the loud thumping from 10pm-2am.

I had this issue on Allure, Oasis, and Anthem when staying in an Oceanview facing forward.

Even with tv on one can still feel the thumping vibrations.  Took several days of complaining

I told my room steward, and he said really most of the crew just go to drink and not dance. It is the crew member running the bar that chooses the volume.

Still buyer beware.  And last time on Oasis I was above the bridge in one of those new rooms, and boy did the windows rattle a lot too.

Thanks for the "heads up" about the helipad rescue. Hope that won't happen on our cruise but at least we know what might have happened if all of a sudden we do not have access to our cabin.
