suni Posted Saturday at 06:39 PM #1 Share Posted Saturday at 06:39 PM Please: Need opinions. Extended family with ages 9-60 sailing. Do we book The Icon out of Miami with eastern itinerary or The Star out of Orlando with western itinerary? We will book suites so we have access to the Suite Deck and Coastal Kitchen. I really don't love sailing from Port Canaveral. Its a hassle to get there from Orlando Airport ad I dont LOVE the itinerary. Should I do it just to sail on the latest and greatest ? We will be sailing on the Icon prior to the trip I am asking about. Appreciate all opinions. Thanks !
smokeybandit Posted Saturday at 08:05 PM #2 Share Posted Saturday at 08:05 PM If one is considerably cheaper than the other (and for a good while, Star was cheaper), then I'd go with that. But if you don't like Port Canaveral or the itinerary and you already know you're going to be putting up premium dollars, then you have your answer. Basically you are getting a worse itinerary (in your opinion) sailing from a worse port (in your opinion) and probably paying more and in the end you are considering doing this just to see a few different shows. This is the only real advantage I can see, based on your description. Personally speaking, while I might be tempted to compromise on itinerary and/or departure port in order to experience a "latest and greatest" class of ship, I would feel no real incentive for the newest ship in the same class. So unless that's a significant factor for you, it seems smarter to stick with the port and itinerary you prefer. 🙂
davidrlewis2302 Posted Saturday at 10:25 PM #5 Share Posted Saturday at 10:25 PM If we were talking the difference between Oasis and Utopia within the class, sure there’s a reason to go latest and greatest. But we’re talking the difference of 18 months between near identical ships. Ultimately it would come down to price for me, but, if you really hate the itinerary and the departure port, I can’t see why you’d choose Star over Icon.
