biddiscombe Posted April 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2006 Has anyone every purchased the wine and dine package - I read that you can buy it ahead of time and receive a bottle of wine with each dinner for the one set price. I was wondering if this was worth it, if the bottle is not gone, will they let you take it to the bar or casino with you? Thanks,
CanadianMAG Posted April 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2006 I think you are allowed to bring it in the casino if it is in a brown paper bag, and you got to drink straigh from the bottle.
birdergal Posted April 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2006 I don't know if they will let you take the remaining wine to the bar or casino, but I know they will keep it for dinner the next evening. We did this a couple of times because we did not purchase a package that included a bottle for every evening.
gratefulguy Posted April 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2006 CanadianMAG, You are SO BAD!!! The OP has posted only once and will now think we are all raving lunatics. There really ought to be a better way for new cruisers (like me!) to be directed to the FAQ's and other places where a newbie can get answers without posting a question that has been asked and answered a 1,000 times. It took me weeks to even look at the topics other than the name of the cruiseline I'm booked on. Biddiscombe, welcome to the wonderful world of CruiseCritic. Please forgive us if we seem to poke fun at questions that are asked in earnest. We know you are just seeking the advice of people who have "been there, done that". It is sooo tempting to have a bit of fun with questions that pop up on these boards almost daily. The Wine and Dine package can be a good way to save on what is otherwise the exorbitant price of wine (and liquor, too) in most places where there is a "captive audience'. You can arrange to use the bottle several ways, although swigging from the bottle, wrapped in a brown paper bag, is probably not what you had in mind, either! Depending on how many cruise days, how many people sharing, and how many bottles in the package, you will probably save something by getting a package. Happy Cruising. P.S. Since it is raining right now in San Diego, I feel your pain, CanadianMAG
RDeagazio Posted April 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2006 You must order the Wine and Dine package on embarkation day only as it's not offered after that. You can consume the bottles ANYWHERE on the ship and can order them from any lounge, restaurant or from room service. If you don't finish the bottle during dinner, they will cork it and store it for the next night or you can take the bottle with you to enjoy elsewhere. Any unopened bottles at the end of the cruise are yours to take home.

Iwantsun Posted April 5, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2006 Aprille thanks for the detailed info. Do you know if the wine package is available on all cruises or just some destinations? I will be on the Brilliance Med cruise sept 06. thanks
loudbmw Posted April 5, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2006 Just a tip - don't think that because you are on a 7-day cruise you have to buy the 7-bottle package. Between the Captain's party and the repeater's party we didn't feel like drinking a whole bottle of wine each night. They will save unfinished bottles for you. Five bottles worked out well for us on our 7-night cruise. Lou

TRadle Posted April 5, 2006 #10 Share Posted April 5, 2006 Just for comparison, how much does a glass of wine cost at dinner? Is it cheaper to buy a bottle than say 3 glasses?

ellenw Posted April 6, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 6, 2006 We were on the Mariner in February. We had 2 couples dining together, and each had a 7 night wine package. Since we watched the Superbowl in the theater on the first night, we each had an extra bottle of wine. We decided it would be nice to have a bottle between the four of us in Elingtons before dinner a couple of nights to use up the extra bottles (second seating for dinner). Fortunately, we checked into it before we went to Elingtons and tried to order a bottle. Turns out you must get the bottle of wine in the dining room. They just give you the bottle, and you can carry it to the lounge area where you want to sit. The waiter will open it and set you up with glasses. But, remember to tip the waiter - I think the first time we did it he was upset that he wouldn't get a tip since the drinks weren't purchased through him. So, if you want to take one of your bottles to you room, arrange it while the dining room is open.

renata102 Posted April 6, 2006 #14 Share Posted April 6, 2006 I also did a bottle of wine for a day for a 5 day cruise. I found that my hubbie and I (he isnot a wine drinker, but will have a glass of wine for dinner) would enjoy a bottle with dinner. Whatever was left over, i poured myself a generous amount of wine before leaving the dinner table and walked with the glass of wine to the theater or another bar while hubby ordered a regular drink. I enjoyed my wine slowly... Also I would finish the left over wine for lunch the next day. I wouild have a glass with lunch. Sometimes my hubbie joined me with another glass. Still i found that I had one bottle choice left over that last night of my cruise. What did i do? Since I had SUCH GREAT TABLE MATES, I ordered a bottle of champagne before dinner (Along with my last bottle of wine choice) and treated my table mates with champagne! to a wonderful cruise! it was nice to share! SO enjoy either way. I find that if you are a hardcore wine drinker during dinner the package should suit you best. if you just enjoy an occasional drink, than its better to get it by the glass.
wrp96 Posted April 6, 2006 #15 Share Posted April 6, 2006 One thing. When I was on the Brilliance last month, they were in the process of switching out the wines available on the ship (in fact they are doing it fleetwide). Some of the wines listed on the Wine and Dine Packages were no longer available, and they were substituting other wines. Make sure a wine is available before you order a package thinking they have that particular wine. They probably will be redoing the Wine and Dine packages since they are eliminating some of the wines that are offered.
liz12540 Posted April 6, 2006 #16 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Hi I was wondering about the wine packages. If you get the 5 bottle deal can you get all champagne or do you have to get a bottle of each wine? If someone could let us know we sail April 16th:)

Sprocket Posted April 6, 2006 #19 Share Posted April 6, 2006 We ordered the 5 bottle Platinum Package on our recent Vision Cruise. Before buying we asked if all the wines that were listed were available, we were assured that they were. Guess what? First night in DR the wine we wanted was not available, luckily our second choice was. If you order the package make sure you check your charges at the end of the cruise, we were overcharged about $60 for ours. Took about 30 minutes at the Pursers Desk that last morning to straighten it out. Bev

Nliedel Posted April 6, 2006 #23 Share Posted April 6, 2006 WE ordered a wine on a level lower than we bought most nights. Think CAREFULLY before you commit the bucko's. I will do it again and again. It was perfect for the two of us.
