New Year's Eve Cruise

Has anyone taken a cruise over New Years on HAL? Do they offer anything special? Was it a great party?:)

Taken five on HAL with #6 reserved for this year and they're a blast!! They'll have parties in most, if not all, of the public lounges, it's usually on a formal night so everyone is dressed up including the crew, the ship will be decorated with balloons, they'll hand out party favors, traditional Dutch food for New Year's Eve called "oliebollen", champagne by the bottles and there will be an official count down. Best one yet was on Ryndam off the coast of Baja California in 2003 where they had it on the Lido/Pool deck under the stars with Captain Frans Consen doing the official count down (he's a party animal anyway!); one of the best ways to celebrate the New Year! :D If you're thinking about it, do it, you won't be sorry! :)

Hi Doverite,

We were on an 11 day New Years' cruise on the Zaandam. When we got on (28th), the Christmas decorations were still up but by the 31st they were down and everything was decorated for the New Year. We had our 2nd formal dinner which was more formal than the 1st and the last. We got souvenir menus and since we had late seating the party was starting as we got out of the DR.

Everyone dressed to the 9's. There was glitter all over the ship for 2 days afterward. The party was not wild but it got kinda lively after 1 am. The captain got goosed in the Crow's Nest among other things. The djs took over after 1am and some people were cut off, something I'd never seen on HAL. Several single women were escorted (involuntarily) back to their cabins.

Hope this answered your question. There were celebrations in all the lounges but the main goodies were in the Crow's Nest.

<sigh>

I wish I could get Christopher to agree to doing one. He always just says that he doesn't see the point. :) However, based upon our cruise schedule, perhaps New Years 2008 will be the time I get him to agree to it? We'll see.

The Captain was goosed, eh? ;)

Now ... HOW would you know that ... unless you were the one who goosed him? :D :eek:

John,

He just grunted and squirmed, feet never left the deck, blushed just a little and tried to ignore her. She was one that was cut off from the bar and escorted to her cabin...shortly after she also within hearing propositioned the bar manager. What is HAL coming to? We thought we were S*** disturbers, but oh well....It was a new year.
