Boarding Time Question

We just received cruise documents for Alaska sailing on Summit out of Seward. Departure is 9:00 p.m., and our boarding time is 6:00 p.m. Last year we took the same cruise and boarded directly off the train from Anchorage at 11:00 a.m. Do you think we'll still be able to get on the ship for lunch, or will we be required to spend the day in Seward? Last year I believe boarding was supposed to be after 2:00 p.m., not 6:00 p.m.; so I have my doubts that they'll let us on so early. We're rather disappointed as we were ready to hit the T-Pool (re: tip from Cruise Critic to always carry your bathing suit in your carry on). Any views on this?

You should be able to get on early, same as last year. What I don't understand is why not check out Seward first? We have so much to do here!

I too am never in a rush to get on a Alaska cruise ship. There are many excellent touring opportunities that since you are there- take advantage. My top pick is a Kenai fjords boat tour, far superior for glaciers and wildlife compared to anything you will see from a cruise ship.

Glacier Lady, The docs say not to go to the pier before 6, which seems a bit late. I'd like to unpack and get my formal dress to the cleaners in case the first formal night is May 28, thereby avoiding the 50% extra charge for same day service. And after 5 days sightseeing I hoped to eat and turn in early. We may be lucky to get in our rooms before 9.

 

Our X tour group is supposed to go to the Alaska Sealife Center (looking forward to that) and be taken to the pier "in the afternoon". Will be interesting to see which time is right.
