Posting Abbreviations for All Us Newbies.....Help Us!!

Many of us "newbies" get confused with all the posting abbreviations.....Please help us out....Even words that we should know but don't.

 

If you could add to the list, it will be greatly appreciated.....I don't want to use an abbreviation incorrectly ;)

 

For example.....(please note I only know the easy ones....lol)

 

X...........Celebrity

LOL........Laughing out Loud

IMHO......In my Humble Opinion

Aft........The back of the ship

Bow.......The front of the ship

 

You all get the drift.....please add to this list

For ship's terms, here are a few more:

 

Forward (towards the bow)

Aft (towards the stern)

Bow (pointy end of the ship, forward)

Stern (back of the ship, aft)

Bulkhead (walls)

Deck (floor)

Port (left side of the ship when facing forward)

Starboard (right side of the ship when facing forward)

Leeward (away from the windy side of the ship, or island)

Windward (toward the windy side of the ship, or island)

Ship (generally restricted to water craft over 100 feet long)

Boat (water craft less than 100 feet long)

Tender (lifeboat or other small boat used to shuttle passengers to shore)

Bridge (where the ship is controlled/steered)

Gangway (steps or ramp used to access the pier from the ship)

Galley (kitchen)

Head (toilets)

Hatch (a water tight doorway)
