drinks in lounges

I am going on my first cruise in May on the Spirit with my 21y daughter and her best friend....my question is concerning the lounges and clubs...can you just go in and sit in these areas and relax/listen to the entertainment without feeling like you have to buy a drink? I don't want to feel uncomfortable by not buying drinks. Also, can you bring a soda or bottle water in these areas that you brought from home? thanks for your help.

I have only ever been on RCCI, and I suppose you could take a drink in to the lounge, but think that it might be frowned upon to have your can of whatever from your stateroom.

None of the lounges we visited were full, so I don't see them giving you the boot if you don't order a drink, but it might seem odd for you to bring in your own. You could probably order a glass of water if your budget is tight.

You can sit anywhere you want to. They are going to come by and see if you want a drink but you certainly don't have to buy one to sit in the lounges. You won't go anywhere the drink guys don't find you, but they're usually very nice and don't pester you to . Go to your ships website to see what their policy for bringing drinks aboard is. On princess, you can only bring wine. No softdrinks or juice or other types of booze. I'm not sure about water. A lot of people try to smuggle Vodka on board in water bottles, so if you try to take water, don't be suprised if the try to open the bottles to see what's inside.

Have a great time on your trip!

I personally find it tacky for someone to bring a "carry-on/carry-in" into a lounge. It is just in poor taste. Now, if you are in one lounge, or in the casino and purchase a drink or bottle of water or soda or whatever you want to drink, You are more than welcome to carry it from one lounge to another or stroll out on the deck. That being said, I do smuggle a bottle of booze onboard, but we keep it to the cabin. We like to have a cocktail while getting ready for dinner. I would purchase a cocktail, water, softdrink in the lounge if I were sitting there for the entertainment.

on hal you willl be asked if you want a drink and if you say no they will leave you alone --you will never be booted out of a lounge because you are not driinking ----- its ok to carry a drink from lounge to lounge but bringing one from your personal stash in the cabin is considered tacky

On every cruise we have ever been on, you can go to any lounge you like, stay as long as you like. Like the others said, you will be asked if you would like a drink, if you say no, they will leave you alone to make money offo of others. I always buy at least one drink on the ship, take the glass back to my room and fill it with whatever I brought with me. Take it to the lounge area and it looks like you bought a drink.:D

But if this poster hadn't said that, and you walked by her, you'd never know that it wasn't a drink she ordered.

I think you made your point the first time you called it tacky- there's no real need to follow up and make anyone feel bad who may not have a lot of money to spend on a lot of drinks, but still wants to experience the lounge atmospheres and not feel out of place.

how do you know that a person bought the drink from their cabin or from another bar on the ship.?

We dont drink and like the music in the lounges so we go- no we dont even order a soda.

I did not know that you can not carry on soda on Princess.

thanks for your replies...I guess I just wanted to know that I would not feel uncomfortable if I did not order a drink and I just wanted to visit the lounges....sometimes I would probably just order a soda and "nurse" it for awhile...

we decided that we did not like what was going on so we strolled to another bar and another. Had nothing to do with being cheap, however, I am not going to chug down my drink just to go to another bar. Our bar bill was over $1000 so I would think that we had our fair share. :D

Difae, there ya go! Just order a soft drink and sip on it while in the lounge. If you want to leave and go to another lounge, take it w/you. I would not, however, take a beverage from my cabin to a lounge. Since you said you'll be on the Carnival Spirit, I can assure you the waiters won't bug you. I've sat in several lounges, sometimes ordering a glass of wine, sometimes water/w/lemon. They definitely won't care if you're having a beverage or not. Enjoy the music!:)

I have walked around with drinks all the time, including the can(s) of Pepsi I brought from home. Nobody ever said anything.

I suppose, not to look too brazen, if I were walking into a lounge at night with something I brought from home, I'd pour it into a plastic cup or something first.

There is no drink minimum in any of the venues as far as I know. Once the wait staff realizes you aren't drinking, they will move on to serve more profitable prospects who are.

Not being a coffee drinker I like soda in the morning - actually I like soda all day long. I buy 6-packs of it from the ship and keep them in my cabin. I have never had any problem opening a can and bringing it with me anywhere on the ship I please. (And you certainly can't tell from a can of Coke where it was purchased.) I also like to work out and will often bring my own insulated water bottle with me on the ship then fill it with ice and water. (Being an insulated container the water is always VERY cold as the ice lasts a long time in there.) And nobody can tell what is in there. I have also brought that with me all around a ship and never been questioned. Feel free to bring what you want anywhere.

I'm not a big drinker, perhaps a cocktail before dinner, wine with dinner, then I'm done for the evening. When we go into any bar or lounge, I have no qualms about asking for just a glass of water. If I'm with someone who doesn't order a drink, I'll leave a tip for the water, I don't expect service for nothing.
