Condition of the Wind after Dry Dock?

Ocean Spirit

Recommended Posts

The Wind is in good shape for her age. She was booked fully & really cant accomodate all its passengers inside when the weather is inclemant.Way too crowded! This ship is best suited to warm sunny days when passengers are outside on its expansive decks. No plumbing problems on deck 8

Just off the Wind as well. I seconsd the comments about the public spaces

being too small when the weather is bad. There was lots of new carpeting

throughout the ship. Stairwells some lounges. My cabin had entirely new

furniture and shades. Looked great. Dont expect any major redesigns.

I did smell sewer odors around the prom deck. Also we lost water in the

cabin for about 45 mins yesterday. Otherwise things went well.

We were on the three-day Wind repo out of San Francisco as well. Just out of drydock, and there are still a few wrinkles to be ironed out.

We love the ship itself ... I am not a huge fan of the glitzy newer ships, so the Wind is fine for me. The new carpet and the cabin updates were great. We had a Cat C oceanview, and thought the amount of space and the layout in the cabin were great. We sailed in a balcony BA on Spirit last year, and felt that the C Wind cabin was more comfortable by a long shot.

The service --- well, we never once saw our cabin steward! No introduction or greeting, although our cabin was kept neat and tidy, and we even had a towel animal one night. We spent a fair amount of time in the cabin reading and just relaxing, so there was plenty of opportunity for the steward to introduce him/her self to us, but it never happened.

We tried to order from room service once. We never actually got a room service menu, even though we had called and asked for one, but we called and ordered a sandwich and a veggie platter, because I knew they had those two items. We waited an hour an 15 minutes before calling to cancel - they just said "okay," no apology or explanation - and running up to the buffet for some snacks ourselves.

The casino was a little weird, as about half the slot machines were out of commision at any given time. We were told there were "electrical problems after two years of having no casino onboard."

The water was out for awhile the third day in, and they had to resort to paper napkins in the Observatory Lounge during the free guacamole and salsa promotion. It was fairly entertaining to see people lining up at the bar to slap guacamole and sour cream onto paper napkins ...

Other than a few glitches, we did enjoy the cruise. We ate at Le Bistro the first night - good food and service, and at la Trattoria the other two nights. Very good food, but the service seemed a bit harried. As if they were short staffed ... we were told by our waiter the third night that they no longer had a wine steward in the restaurant, and the waiters now have to open and serve all the wines.

I know a lot of other passengers were complaining about this cruise, but we thought it was okay. It was certainly not expensive, and although it was a disappointment to miss the (only) port of call, that was due to weather, and nothing NCL had control of.

I guess any vacation is what you make of it, and we enjoyed the time we had onboard. ;)

I thought it's normal to find the room service menus in the cabin's paper documentation in a binder near the desk and by the phone. Did you look inside the drawers? It's possible they ordered new binders and they just hadn't been delivered. Hopefully they'll be present soon.

Just off the wind also. We also had no room service menu we ask for one and the brought it. We thought the cruise was OK. I had have been on the wind several years ago. The service has gone way down. The food choices in the dinning rooms was terrible the best item was the macoroni and cheese on the last night. That was actually a choice on the regular menu we ordered for our 2 year old but it was better then what my wife and i had. And the buffet was also so stuffed with people you could barely move and the food was poor. This was one cruise were we coulndt wait to get off. This was my 16 th cruise.

Yes, we looked. We did have the binder, but all it had in it was stationery. Nothing in the drawer, either.

I think they're still putting on the finishing touches post drydock. As I said earlier, the casino was definitely not ready. The upper decks were still being painted, and some of the paint was very tacky, even though passengers were walking on it.

Of course that was only on the first day, while the ship was still in port in SF. After that, it was so cold and windy, no one was out on any of the decks!

We love the Wind - I think she has a certain old-fashioned elegance that the newer ships, with all their bells and whistles, lack.

Personally, I have never had a bad cruise ... some are better than others, but again, I believe a cruise will always be what you make of it.
