Last cruise I was on you can smoke on your own balcony, who would know the difference, however, there are certain areas of the ship (or side of the ship) when on deck where you can smoke. They have signs and it was never a problem.

Well where did you hear the rumor??? I don't think you heard it here, because I've seen nothing about it. You should probably confirm the rumor with Carnival... or your source.

Amy- I think the poster got it mixed up- all balconies and cabins are smoking but on the public decks only one side is for smoking and the other non.

You've always been able to smoke in the staterooms and balconies. The OP is asking if a rumor about making one side of the cabins non smoking, is true.

I must have read the same post as the original OP and it did mention that she had a cabin on the non smoking side of the ship. I thought this was odd as I have never heard or witnessed this with any of my groups sailings. I do believe that perhaps that person was confused about the smoking in public areas being restricted to one side vs the other but not the staterooms.

So all rooms are smoking if you want...

but public areas are divided by a smoking side and a non-smoking side...????

Which side is which on deck???

Every cruise I have been on people seem to smoke on both...

Yes, all rooms are smoking if you want.

On the Lido deck, there is a smoking side, and a non smoking side. The smoking side will be the side without the "No smoking" signs, and WITH the ashtrays :D I think it's starboard...

The Liberty is a nice ship. I've sailed her twice now, Europe and E caribbean.

The itinerary is great. Loved Tortola and going to the Baths. If you plan to go you should use Julie at Patouche, they are a great company.

Antigua we all went to a private island for the day, a great option if there are lots of ships in port that day. Heard that Pineapple was packed.

Been to San Juan so many times just got off and checked out the street vendors and picked up a few bottles of water and some soda at the local grocery then back on board for dinner and a relaxing evening. St Thomas did my first daysail which was awsome. Nassau another day to just walk around and check it out. You will have a great time!!!!

The outside area of the Starboard (right) side is smoking, there is no way they could make one whole side of the ships cabins smoking because there are less smokers than non smokers on the ship.

Then they should make 70% of the rooms non smoking......hotels do it.....or better yet non smoking all together.....when Florida went NS in everyone predicted the demise of all the restaurants...but alas, after a sort down turn, sales are better thenever.

let it rip....I have my kevlar suit on...plus my ac just died and it just hit 88 in the house, so it can not get much hotter......hurry up s&s electric the fat man is dy ing here......

Comparing apples to oranges.

Let's try not to respect the OP enough not to turn this into a debate. Seriously... it's almost as if some people just sit out there, ready to pounce anytime it comes up.

Curly, you must be new to cruising, and aren't aware that in 1998, Carnival built the Paradise, and advertised her as a totally non-smoking ship. I forgot how many years it operated that way, 3-4? Anyhoo, they LOST money on her, so the Paradise is now the same as all other Carnival ships. However, on most of the ships I've cruised, more and more smoking areas are being made non-smoking.

I believe Disney is the only cruiseline with non-smoking cabins.

While on the Victory in March of this year.. the lido deck bar midship was smoking on the starboard side.. while the aft bar.. was smoking on the port side.. If you are unsure ask the bartenders.. Sorry as per the OP's question.. I never heard of one side of the ship cabins being non smoking.. as we met a couple that were on the starboard side and they smoked in their cabin.. as did I on the port side...

It was longer than that. The Paradise was non-smoking until they moved her over to the Baja itinerary and brought the Ecstasy to Galveston. I remember reading about it on these boards, so I want to say it was sometime in the fall of 2004 when they made the switch.

Regardless, the fact remains that it wasn't as profitable as their other ships, so it had to go. DH and I are bummed we never got a chance to sail her before that happened, but such is life.

I have to admit after seeing the ship on fire a couple a months ago I was all for no-smoking. Most people are responsible about it, but all it takes is one.

Thankfully there aren't many ship fires... and since we don't know what caused the Princess fire, I don't know that it would be a reason to make any changes. Perhaps better sprinkler systems, better building materials, etc. should also be investigated. We simply don't know yet.

My mother was very hesitant to let me smoke in our cabin, on our Legend cruise last month, after hearing about the Princess cruise. I laughed and advised her that it obviously wasn't a person from New York State that was smoking on there. They make our cigarettes with special paper and they go out every 5 seconds if you aren't smoking it! Made her feel a little better!

I was on the first smoking cruise for the Paradise in Sept. of 2004. Smoking was allowed on about half of the outside decks (Starboard, I think). Smoke was heavy in a few of the bars and the casino, not allowed in the dinning room. I want to say they also said no smoking in the cabins, but don't remember for sure.

We chose the trip for the 4 day west coast run as a first cruise for the three of us. (2 non-smokers, one smoker). Had a great time, looking forward to cruise number two in Sept of this year.

Never heard of this rumor except on Disney where it is true. However I can dream can't I? How nice it would be the day the cruise lines catch up to the rest of the world and offer a choice. After all the motels/hotels have been offering non-smoking rooms for over 30 years now. Just how behind the times are the cruise lines? Hurray for the Mouse! They got it. I would think it would be a big cost saver for the cruise line to at least offer half the ship's cabins as non-smoking. They would save thousands in that miracle spray that dosen't work after each smoker in a cabin. No more burnt holes in the bedding, carpet, furniture on half the ship. Half the ship would book out earlier as non-smokers are so happy to get one they will book earlier to get one.
