Star or Caribbean, BC or GTY

Looks like we will give Princess another try in Dec for a Car. cruise. Any comments on which is better-we are leaning towards the Star because of itinerary. Also, because of pricing models, we can go BC or Bal. Gty. IF we go BC do we have the same chance of being upgraded. What level should we not go to if we want a covered balcony. Thanks for your input.
