FOD meeting on Voyager

After a week of trying, we have finally convinced RCCL to place a FOD meeting on the cruise compass for tonight. We are currently a bit more than midway through our 13 day long transatlantic sailing on Voyager, and although I have no first-hand knowledge I had heard that the ship's personnel had been resisting placing the notice. There is a fairly large contingent of "family" on board, and we've organized our own get togethers by posting notices on the board in the library, but the compass notice is a welcome addition. We've been meeting in "The Vault." I know several people had been applying pressure to the onboard staff, and others had been running the issue up the corporate flagpole, so I'm not sure what worked - no doubt they will all take credit, lol. The meeting is at 10pm in the vault, and it's a fair bet that's where a lot of us will be anyway, so attendance should be good. :)

I have noticed quite a few posts about how RCI resists FOD parties, is not friendly toward gay cruisers and the like. We have cruised several cruise lines and have found RCI the most comfortable and accepting of any that we have sailed. The crew, passengers, tablemates, maitre d, head waiters went out of their way to ensure we had a comfortable and memorable trip. We're not ones to rate a cruise on weather or not a ship has a FOD party because frankly, we have never had any problem finding other gay people on any ship we have been on. In fact, we were on the Radiance OTS on a Hawaii cruise where they had 2 FOD parties in the Champagne bar and we were the only 2 people there. Yes, they were advertised in the Cruise Compass.

Sorry if I made it sound like we were in an unfriendly environment, because actually it was quite the contrary! I've heard that transatlantics are well populated with "family" and this one did not disappoint. We met a GREAT bunch of people, family and otherwise, and were never made to feel unwelcome in any way. Our FOD parties, except for the ones that were poorly timed and conflicted with other activities, were always well attended.

 

I think the deal with the FOD listings is that RCCL seems willing to put a great many things in the compass, so the unwillingness to list FOD seems arbitrary. They did, in fact, refuse initially on this sailing, but we managed to find each other anyway via the meeting board in the library.

We had Simeon for the crossing, but he was switching ships after that sailing, so I'm not sure who it is now for the med sailings.
