RCI Pre-Cruise Transfers--Help!

Hello. We booked a pre-cruise at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel with RCI. I read a recent CC cruise review ( Empress OTS ) that said they had to take a taxi to the hotel from the airport, because the shuttle bus does not fit in the Old San Juan streets. Has anyone run across this situation? Would love to hear from you...Helen

We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan pre and post in March. We had RCCL transfers to from airport, hotel, and pier. We used them from airport to hotel and reverse,=, as well as from the pier from the hotel, and the bus was able to get through the streets fine. My suggestion though is get a taxi instead.

 

On embarkation day, we were required to check out of the hotel by 11am BUT the bus wasn't going to pick us up until somewhere between 1 and 2. They couldn't even give us a good estimate of when, might be earlier, might be later. We were expected to just sit and wait in the lobby for the bus. There were only a few seats and lots of people waiting (3 ships in port that day). We left our luggage to come over on the bus and went ahead and took a taxi to the pier around 10:45. We were the 2nd people on the ship.

 

Post cruise we made the mistake of waiting for the transfers. We stood in line outside for a while waiting for the bus. Then not everybody could fit on the bus with the luggage so a few people had to get off. By the time we got to the hotel, we couldn't check in but there were no seats left because everybody else had taken a taxi instead. Take a taxi.

Hi wrp96..Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate the info. Am sure we will now do the taxi to embark the Empress OTS in December. How was the bus coming TO the hotel from the airport? Do you recommend a taxi there, too? Again, thank you...Helen
