cost of eating and drinking

Is all the food as much as you like to eat? For eg, can you eat lunch in the dining room, then have a pool-side snack a bit later, then grab a quick pizza before dinner? Or are these pool-side snack/pizza/grill/coffee places extra cost?

Obviously alcoholic drinks are extra, but what about soft drinks? Do soft drinks/coffee come with the meal?

What about soft drinks/coffee by the pool?

What about in the bars?

I'd appreciate any info.

It does not say which line you will be sailing, but in general.

Soft drinks are extra. You can pay by the glass or you can, on many lines, get a soda card. Usually those should be purchased by someone who drinks a lot of soda. The tap water is fine to drink and tastes pretty good.

There is usually juice available at breakfast, but a charge the rest of the day. Again, this is dependant on line. Ice Tea is generally available as is coffee. Many lines are notorious for horrible coffee. My thoughts are you're at sea, it's all good.

Food is included. You can eat just about 24/7 if you are so inclined. It would be possible to have breakfast in the dining room, then go to the buffet and round it all out with room service. Again, this is line specific.

Usually pool places do not charge for food. Many lines have paid restaurants, but the lines try to have them be something above and beyond the regular. You will not accidently eat in a place that charges if you read your daily cruise news paper that is delivered to your cabin.

Most bars do not provide food. Again, this is one of those areas that is variable to some extent.

Each cruiseline does things differently. Please say which line when asking questions.

Specific to Carnival:

All food (with the exception of 'supper club', specialty dessert/coffee bar) is included in the cost of your cruise. You can eat yourself silly all day long. The pizzeria, deli, ice cream and yogurt machines are available 24 hrs. a day. Nobody will be monitoring your food intake.:D

Beverages included are iced tea, hot tea, coffee, decaf, variety of juices, milk, skim milk, chocolate milk, hot chocolate, lemonade, fruitpunch. There is a charge for soft drinks everywhere on the ship, including the ones they have in your cabin. Children UNDER the age of 12 can have comp soft drinks in the dining room - not at Lido buffet. Also -something that most lines don't offer - complimentary espresso and cappuccino with every meal in the dining room, but not available at Lido buffet.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner available in the dining rooms, as well as from the Lido buffet. Also burgers & hot dogs from the grill on Lido. Room service has a very nice selection of sandwiches, desserts, b'fast items, etc. No charge, but you should tip the delivery person $1-2 each time they bring an order.

Hope this helps.:)

The majority of food is included in the price of your cruise. The exceptions are: the supper clubs / specialty restaurants, some upscale coffee bars & some premium ice creams. You can eat as many times as you want. Get room service, then go to breakfast in the dining room, & hit the tail end of the buffet. You can do the same for lunch& dinner. There's usually an afternoon snack, which looks more like a full meal, served every day. At the included restaurants you can order more than one of something you like. There's also food available after dinner & the infamous midnight buffets.

Alcohol, soda & bottled water are extra. You can bring some soft drinks & bottled water on board, but the desalinated water on the ship is safe to drink. I often refill the bottles just for convenience & to decrease weight b/c I'm not about to lug a heavy case of water to a port.

Bon appetite!

Holland America:

You can eat as much as you want at breakfast, lunch or dinner in either the Lido, dining room or room service - and you can eat all day long. Their ice cream is free.

Soda are not free. On some ships they have a soda card that can be purchased - so many sodas for a certain price. And there will be a 15% gratuity added on to all drinks - alcohol - soft drinks that you purchase.

Their specialy restaurant, Pinnacle Grill is $20 per person.
