mom x4,grandma x4 Posted May 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2006 Hi, we are not new to cruising, but we have never done carnival. We are trying to decide between Mariner of the seas and a 7 day eastern with Carnival. I have gone to Carnivals official web site and saw one of their papers that shws the events of the day. It mostly had casino tournaments and such, which isnt of interest to me. So here are my questions: !. is there somewhere I can read a list of events on the ship which does the Eastern itenary? The one on line wasnt for a 7 day cruise. 2. Which, if any activities cost extra? I know Bingo and casinos would cost extra, but anything else? 3. We will be traveling as 4 adults, a 13 yr old boy and 15 year old girl. Is there plenty for teens to keep busy on carnival?? 4. are there any family events you can do together? 5. If there are any tips or suggestions or just thoughts you could send my way to help out a newbie I would greatly appreciate it!!!! We are not going until summer 07, but I need to plan now so we can decide which line would be best for the families. Thanks again, mom x4,grandma x4

Adam185 Posted May 21, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2006 We are going on our first Carnival cruise in 3 weeks, but I've been doing a TON of research. While I am a big casino person, my wife is not. According to the Carnival Capers (the ship's newsletter), there are a great deal of things to do outside of the casino, including pool games, trivia. Also, I've read nothing but positive reviews of the teen club onboard. Good luck in your research.
Cotton Posted May 21, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2006 Hi, I have gone to Carnivals official web site and saw one of their papers that shws the events of the day. Teens ping pong contest Bridge players contest Bingo Travel talk Free golf clinic Bartender lessons Line Dancing lessons Art auctions w/comp champagne "Tea Time" on sea day afternoons Survivor game Wine & cheese party TV trivia Library Win, Lose or Draw game Shopping Sports Trivia Golf puting competition Teens Mocktail party Karaoke Shopping Who wants to be a millionaire game What's in the bag game Poolside contests Arcade Mini-golf "Make-Your-Own-Sundae" bar Name that tune game Newlywed, not so newlywed game Galley tour ........to name a few things that might interest you.:)
Scorpiorose Posted May 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2006 There's art auctions, lots of fun even though I'm not into that that much they serve free champagne and make it fun, there are lots of teens on carnival, pools....I don't think that these other things are extra, I didn't ever pay for anything except casino and bingo. I'm sure others can speak to the activities for teens! Have fun
Rare silentbob007 Posted May 21, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2006 mom x4,grandma x4, 1. Like another poster has suggested, you want to look for copies of the ship's Capers. These can be found on the above mentioned webiste, or you can probably search this forum to find them as well. 2. Besides bingo and casino, other pay-activities are usually along the lines of wine-tasting and some of the fitness classes. Depending on the ship, there may also be some premium dining options that also cost extra. Pay activities outside of gambling (bingo, etc) though, are few and far between in my experience. 3. There is a teen club that, for the ages you are talking about, is pretty loosely structured but will keep them busy if they so choose. Depending on the ship, there are dedicated teen areas, arcades, etc. From experience, Carnival has a pretty good teen program and is very rarely boring to kids of that age. 4. As for family events, there are things going on during the day like trivia, dance classes, etc. At night, the standard shows are meant to be family suitable (think PG), and there are other activities like kereoke available, as well. 5. As for suggestions, I would look at newer ships that do the eastern itinerary (Glory, Valor, etc) as they usually have the most entertainment options. I'm sure a Carnival cruise will be a big change from DCL, but not necessarily in a bad way.
Maryutah Posted May 21, 2006 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2006 There is a library, free first run movies, and the pool (the pools are smaller, but if you've cruised you know that). We did free line dancing class, went to see Ice Sculpting, and they have a 'make a animal out of a towel contest'. I was so worried we'd be bored to tears, and it was the opposite, so full it was amazing! The week went by sooo fast. Good luck on your family cruise, it sounds wonderful! Thanks again, mom x4,grandma x4 You don't say which Carnival Ship you are looking at. If it is the Glory (which leaves from the same port as the Mariner), I just scanned all seven days worth of the Carnival Capers for my Eastern Caribbean cruise (4/29 - 5/6/06). They are supposed to be posted on the CruiseCal.Com, but they are not showing up yet. So if you want them, send me an e-mail at ZefH at MSN dot Com and I'll e-mail them to you. All 43 pages takes up 10.6 MB. So if your in box does not have that much room, send me an e-mail and we can work out something else (like one day per e-mail, which would be about 1.6 MB per day) or some other workable option.
