Booking Main Seating for Dinner

My Mom and I are sailing on the Star to Mexico. Can we get a set time on in main dining room when we book our trip, or is it all free style dining? What time is early seating? Thanks

Only Freestyling, I never ate early but I am sure you will not have any issue eating when you choose too. I believe the dining rooms open around 5:30 I may be way off base here.

On my last NCL cruise (Spirit this past Feb), the main dining rooms were open from 5:30 to 10 pm. The 10 pm represents the latest that you can place an order after being seated, which means you're actually allowed to dine later than that.

 

I've never done it but I have read here on CC that you can talk to the maitre d' and arrange a set dining time for every night. But I believe they will only do that for early (5:30 or 6ish) or late (8:30 on). Somebody, correct me if I'm wrong about this.

So, we can pick a set time early or late setting just like the old days with same table and waiters? My Mom is 75 I don't think she wouls like freestyle dinning>

NO unfortunatly you can not pick a set time. But I am sure if you show up everynight at 5:30 you willnot have an issue finding a table!

We do have friends who request a set dining time and waiter every night on NCL, so it can be done. Talk with the Maitre'd the first night and he should be able to arrange it for you. I'm pretty sure there are limited times for this arrangement -- they choose to eat at 5:30, which I think is the time the dining room normally opens.

 

Another option is to ask to be seated in a particular waiter's area. That way you're not limited to a specific time, but you can have the same waiter each night. They'll normally accomodate your request. We've had a couple of times when the waiter's area was full, and we were asked if we wanted to wait an hour or so, or be seated in another server's area immediately. If you're interested in trying any of the different restaurants, this is a good option for the nights when you're eating in the main dining room.
