Summit Alaskan cruise disappointment (MERGER OF 5 THREADS ON THIS TOPIC)

Recommended Posts

I was under the impression they already sued Celebrity. Either way, I think this thread has gone on long enough and should be locked.

Why? It's not violating any rules, and if people aren't interested in the discussion, they can simply stay away...

I got my vouchers last night. If I'm understanding it right, it's a coupon for whatever 30% is of what you paid for this trip on Summit (mine were $650 each). If I'm not mistaken, you can use it on a cheaper cabin or cruise and actually get MORE than 30% off. For example, if I were to book a cruise that would be $1300 pp, I would actually get 50% off, and if I were to book something that came out to $1000 pp, I would actually get 65% off. I like this solution. Hopefully, I'm correct about this...

Sally, why do you think this has gone on long enough. Most of us who were on the cruise believe that we are still owed something by Celebrity. Why are you still reading this thread if you think it ought to be locked. Vote with your fingers and don't read this thread or post on it.

Thats not exactly the way internet message boards work... Anyone (including those with different opinions) should be allowed to post here, not just those who feel they have been slighted by Celebrity. Other people that read, and disagree with you are just as entitled to their opinion as you are. And, for the record, I agree with her enough is enough. Time to MOVE ON people (memories of the Acapulco thread and ill fated Infinity cruise come to mind) ....

I think the problem is, you are not getting anything more, and you might be under the mistaken impression that airing your grievances here will help you. It probably will not. Why spend time here trying to get something (other than sympathy... and you know how that goes)? Why not focus 100% of your efforts where it might do some real good for you, like with Celebrity, or a class action attorney (and what's the deal with that anyway, did they sue or didn't they??!)...

As for violating the guidelines, I disagree that the rules are not being violated. Bump posts are contrary to the guidelines, and yet there have been bump posts to this thread.

Why??? If you don't want to read it, don't. Some people find this thread interesting and it should be left open for furture comments.

I agree, "Anyone (including those with different opinions) should be allowed to post here ..." Which is the reason why this thread should be left open. Just because you believe it is enough does not mean everyone agrees with you. If others want to post, this thread should be left open for other to voice their opinions. Those who don't want to don't have to. If it is too much for you, just unsubscribe.

I'm confused. You quoted me and responded to me, but I am not one of the people trying to get more from Celebrity. While I'm not 100% satisfied with the treatment or the outcome, I think it is reasonable and better than it could have been. However, the simple fact that one or more people have posted on this thread EVERY DAY for over a month should indicate that there is still interest in the topic. If you or Sally don't share that interest, then nobody is asking you to look.

I have no interest (for example) in threads where people discuss tipping advice. I would NEVER suggest to people that such threads shouldn't exist, though, simply because the topic has been discussed ad nauseum... I just don't open them. No harm done. People have the right to discuss whatever they want within the rules, even if everybody doesn't share those interests.

And if there have been bump posts (I don't remember them, but I'll take your word for it), then those posts should be removed and those posters chastised, but that's no reason to lock the entire thread.

Maybe the two people that post here several times a day should start their own web page. The rest of us get tired of looking at this very same topic day after day, opening it, thinking it may have been resolved, only to discover, everyone is still trying to justify why they are owed a free cruise and their money back.

Just don´t read what you don´t want to read, unless your job requires to read anyhow. In that case I could understand the wish to have this thread closed. But it would be unfair. There are lots of threads discussing much less important matters to a fewer people. See post Drew B.

This thread should remain active. We are exchanging information and thoughts about a matter which has not come to an end yet.

happy sailings

Then unsubscribe. Otherwise you are complaining about people complaining, which makes you as much of a complainer as the people you are complaining about. Nobody is forcing you to read this.

I don't get why you're opening it. If you don't even want the thread to exist anymore, then you clearly don't care to hear anything else that is written on the topic. Ergo, no reason to open it. If you don't open it and it's just another thread on a list, I can't imagine it interfering with your happiness much.

If I save just one person from booking on a ship that may ruin their once in a life time cruise to Alaska, I would be happy that I posted on this website. I just want to keep cruisers on this class of ship informed of what happened to us. No more, no less.

My husband and I have cruised on Celebrity twice. In fact, we just returned from a 10-day cruise that sailed April 28th of this year.. We took our daughter, son-in-law and two grandchidren. It was wonderful. We were there to have a great time as a family...no matter what. In fact, we even talked about that. We decided to make the best of every situation...no matter...and to relax and have fun.

I am not going to stop sailing Celebrity. In fact, this makes me more likely to sail...because I think they put their passengers first...and try to make decisions that are based on passenger safety...not the other way around.

I am sure that most of you had more fun than you would like to admit to on this board...and now you are trying to sock it to Celebrity.

I'm sorry, but that is not going to fly. Give it up. They gave you a deal...it was fair...and you still get the deal and you had a great time to boot. One just can't have a bad time...sailing on a great ship...being pampered...and cared for.

I'm sorry that it wasn't perfect. I am sure the staff tried their best to make you happy. If they didn't...well, we are all sorry for your disappointment. Book another cruise...have a great time...and enjoy the time you do have being happy. Life is too short to sit around brooding over things that didn't live up to your expectations.

Do you know how many people die of heart attacks each year over-stressing on things that in the end...just aren't worth it? Plenty!!! Don't become one of those statistics. Joyce

The real problem is, they didn't enjoy their cruise, because they spent the whole time protesting and trying to bring others into the fray. They spent their whole cruise meeting with the captain and engaging in a sitin in the casino so that the cruise ship would lose money. Shame on them for ruining their vacation that way.

Feel bad for the ones who DIDN'T participate in those shenanigans, but had their vacations hampered by it anyway...

I have yet to hear about the commencement of the class action, or a judge certifying the class. [That is required by the law] I expect that this is mostly wishful rhetoric. The real fact is that an established class action attorney would most likely be totally unwilling to accept the case, because the money was not there for him or her.

I would prefer to hear about a class action that was commenced by the non-protesting pax, who had their cruise interfered and their cruise experience on Celebrity depreciated by the complaints, the whining and protests by the so-called protesters who were having repeated meetings. Frankly, no one has mentioned this, but it seemed that a mob psychology took over this vessel, without giving any thought whatsoever to how they were affecting those who were enjoying this 13 night voyage.

These landlubers fail to understand that a vessel on the sea is subject to certain dangers. The Captain has the responsibility to ensure the safety of his vessel and that of his passengers. Not one of the posters has suggest that the Captain acted irresponsibly. As a young LTG in the Navy in the late 1950s, on a ship in a squadron of 4, we departed Buckner Bay in Okinawa in the face of Typhoon Helena - the most destructive Typhoon up to that time, and endured waves of 60 feet high. We survived because of good seamanship, and captains who had a responsibility for their vessels and their men.

With due respect to Drew B, who made the most of his cruise, I agree that this thread should be closed down, and let those with their "compensation neurosis" set up their own web site.

To those who seek more compensation, just remember what I mentioned in a very early post, you may end up paying your attorneys out of your own pockets, and receive little or nothing. That happens to be reality!

HI Drew Where do you live? We are holding a cabin on a cruise with Celebrity, on which we got a good cabin with a good rate and an interesting itinerary. As Alaska was a cruise that we had looked forward to for a long time, we splurged on a balcony cabin well in advance of the Happy Hour Special. (our cabin was listed $700 per person cheaper and of course we couldn't take advantage of it) So, our FCC will be a little more!! We will do Alaska again but next time on a much smaller vessal. Maybe Spirit of Discovery . WE loved the sites that we DID see, and tried not to get too aggrevated with the Summit's problems, as we knew that on our return home we had to deal with a serious medical condition. Fortunealty things worked out quite well, and we will go on more cruises and holidays

I was thinking this morning of several things that really stand out in our minds about our last cruise on Celebrity's Infinity.

Allen, our waiter was wonderful. Every night he spent a great deal of time talking to our two grandchildren, ages 10 and 12. He taught our grandson, Justin, several tricks that used things on the dinner table. He gave him a cup and saucer to take out of the dining room so Justin could show his ship-friends the tricks. The next night he taught him a darling trick using the dinner napkin. The kids loved the tricks. Justin still enjoys playing these tricks on people, two months after the cruise.

Cassandra was at our table on a nightly basis. She even came to the speciality restaurant to let us know how Justin was doing at our table the night he decided to dress up and eat alone in the main dining room. Our grandchildren learned a lot about being polite, and gracious because of the cruise experience they enjoyed with us...their grandparents. Hopefully, they will take that experience with them throughout their lives.

That was just one little extra that happened that still makes us smile about our cruise. Did you know that most of the families of the crew members will never get to enjoy the luxury of going anywhere, much less cruise on a beautiful ship? Allen has a sister our granddaughter's age. Yet, he still gave 150% to make sure our grandchildren had a wonderful time. Yeah to the crew on Celebrity's ships. If you are reading these posts...most of us are very appreciative of what you do. Keep up the good work! Don't let the negative things impact you or your lives. Celebrity is number one in our books. We are cruising with them again April of 2008. It's not any one thing that makes or breaks a cruise...it is the overall picture one should look at. Joyce:D

If you look over my posting of this cruise, you will find I said the cruise itself and crew were wonderful. As far as someone preaching about "heart attacks and life being to short."...My husband is dying of cancer , so please don't preach to me. It was his wish to see the glacier, luckily we took the helicoper, too. Our Hubbard glacier experience on the Summit was unforgiveable.

LOL! I actually thought of this, but who would the defendents be? It's not like I (or any of the rest in my situation) know the specific identities of people responsible, and I don't think you could just sue 1200 people who signed a list, many of whom did absolutely nothing to ruin anybody else's trip.

Hi, Sandy. I live in Los Angeles. Which cruise are you holding a cabin on?

I'm so happy that your medical issue is working out well. Hopefully that means MANY more cruises in your future.
