Silver Cloud 5/11-25

We want to share a few observations regarding the past fourteen days on board the Cloud from Genoa to Lisbon.

This was our first voyage on the Cloud. All past voyages have been on the Whisper or Shadow.

Overall - we really enjoyed the cruise and the ports of call and are glad we stayed on to Lisbon. We picked the cruise because of the ports of call on the first leg. We enjoyed the ability of the ship to dock at the smaller ports where the Whisper and Shadow would have had to be at anchor. We prefer the deck space on the larger ships. The first leg had about 260 passangers while the second leg had around 250. The passengers on the second leg were quite older than those on the first leg. I assume this was because there was only one sea day on the first leg and the walking on the trours was extensive. Both legs had a very international mixture of passengers.

Dining: Food was excellent although the menues were repetitive.

Service: staff in "The Resturant" was insufficient at most dinners....so much so that the head waiter was clearing and setting up tables. Lunch in the Restaurant was wonderful as only a handful of people eat there.

Saletta: At $150 per person, we rarely saw anyone in there.

La Terrezza: excellet service and food. Menue changes every other day. Make your reservations in the moring or the day before if you want to eat there.

Cabin and Cabin Staffs: These lived up to our expectations. The Silver Suite was not booked and left open for inspection. We looked at it and cannot recommend it when compared to the Silver Suites on the Shadow and Whisper. We have cancelled our Silver Suite on the Wind in December in South America and opted for a regular veranda.

Entertainment: No comment. We don't sail with Silversea for the on board entertainment or speakers.

Post Cruise Note:

We stayed three nights at the Ritz Four Seasons in Lisbon. The hotel directors of all four Silversea Ships should stay at this hotel to see how personal service is taken to a level beyond the expectations of the guests and set the standards of the Four Seasons as a bench mark for their staff.

Thanks for posting your comment on the last Cruise it is always good to read this. I've been cruising with Silversea since 1996 and spent almost 400 days on the ships. And I used to work in 5* hotels for 13 years. And I think you can't compare the staff on ships with the staff in the Ritz Four Seasons. The staff on the ships usually stays 4-6 months. In a hotel like the Ritz you are only hired when you have several years of experience in high class hotels and you stay usually more then 6 months. So they have more time to train these people. It is not easy to hire high qualified staff on a ship.
