professor Posted June 30, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2004 I'll soon be taking the Alaska cruise from Seattle on the Star, and will be staying at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel on Alaskan Way prior to the cruise. Maps of the area aren't too helpful, and I was wondering if anyone knows the area, or has stayed at the Marriott prior to boarding the Star. Is the Marriott "walking distance with luggage in tow" from the hotel to the embarcation entrance for Pier 66, or should I take a cab? Many thanks! dtladie Posted June 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Hotel and Pier are about a blk away. Check with the hotel, last I heard they transported luggage to the pier for you. Have a GREAT cruise!
travelhound Posted June 30, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2004 We stayed at the Marriott before our May 30th Star cruise. Great hotel, great location. We had rolling luggage and just walked out the door, crossed the street and were at the the pier. It's maybe a half block to the security door. I think you may be able to pay the Marriott bellmen to take your luggage on a cart, but we didn't think that was necessary. I did see luggage with Star tags piled up on those hotel baggage carts, so I'm assuming they walked it over with them. Have fun. Teri
ZLAretired98 Posted June 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2004 We sailed out of Seattle on the Sun last year (03) and stayed at the Waterfront Marriott the night before the cruise. It's a great location for NCL cruisers... right across the street from Pier 66. We had a room with a waterfront view, so when we opened the curtains the next morning, there was our ship! We checked out of the Marriott about 11:00. The bell captain had our luggage loaded on a cart and they "walked" it across the street with us to the NCL luggage check in. Our Marriot stay was great way to begin what turned out to be a fantastic week!
zimmerjulie Posted June 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Ditto. We connected the rolling suitcases together and walked over. If you go early (about 10:00 am) they will likely be checking luggage in at gate 2, while people are still disembarking. Have a great cruise. dudettedeb Posted June 30, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Professor - which date are you sailing? We are on the July 18th, and we're staying at the Best Western Executive Inn downtown, but we arrive July 15.
10s nut Posted June 30, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Can anyone tell me if there is a convenience store/grocery to buy water at the pier. Would like to check in and then go buy a case.
snoopy_leogirl Posted July 1, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 1, 2004 10s Nut, your question just reminded me of something, once you board the ship at the Seattle pier, can you get off the ship a bit later to walk around the pier, or as you said, go to a convenience store? Just curious.
SeattleChris Posted July 1, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2004 Yes, there's a small grocery near the pier.
10s nut Posted July 1, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 1, 2004 Thanks Seattle..exactly how near is near? Carrying a case of water can get heavy! And, Snoopy, I've never had any problem getting off any ship once I've checked in.

SeattleChris Posted July 2, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 2, 2004 10s Nut, as I recall it's a trival walk from the nearby deli/grocery to the cruise dock entrance, even if carrying stuff. I'll double-check next time I'm there though, which should be soon.

professor Posted July 3, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted July 3, 2004 Many thanks to everyone for all the useful information pertaining to Seattle's Pier 66 and the Marriott Hotel nearby. Sounds like an ideal set-up! Is it wise to assume that -- barring unforeseen circumstances -- boarding of the Star will begin by 11:00 or 11:30 a.m.? SeattleChris Posted July 5, 2004 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2004 10s Nut, Looks like I won't actually make it down to the pier before you leave, sorry. According to yahoo maps, the Bell Street Deli & Grocery is about 2 blocks south on the waterfront. The star is the cruise terminal parking garage, you'll be on Alaskan Way as you exit the terminal.
