1st time booking a gty ?

Recommended Posts

We are considering booking a back 2 back on a ship without balconys. (Fascination) Having never sailed in a room other than a balcony we are considering going totally out there and booking a gty room on both legs of the cruise. We have never booked a qty room but what the heck we might as well make this cruise totally different from anything we have done in the past! My question is can a person book a gty cabin but with a minimum level? I have read these boards enough to know not to book anything less than what we will be happy with because an upgrade is wishfull thinking and you can certainly end up at the bottom of the gty catagory. We would be happy with anything oceanview OTHER than a 5A. We don't think we can handle two little portholes. It will be tough enough to be without our balcony space as we really do use the balcony quite a bit. I just wondered if we could pay for the minimum classification we would be happy with such as 6A but still have it be a gty so we can hope for an upgrade. Seems like a lot of CC members do the gty rooms as part of the fun of seeing if they can get lucky enough to be upgraded. We have always picked a specific room and have never been moved in any way. We thought it might be fun but we don't want to be foolish and book a gty IF we can't at least be assured of a 6A or higher. Thanks for sharing your answers.

You can book and Inside Guarantee, Outside Guarantee, or Balcony Guarantee. There may be more levels but those are the ones I know of.

You will not receive anything less than the level you book.

I do not think there is any such thing as a 6B or a 6C guarantee... but I could be wrong.

Someone on our next cruise booked ours and another back to back and they were able to arrange to stay in the same cabin for both legs of their cruise. I'm assuming they will be able to leave their belongings in their cabin. If this is so, in my view, this would be a major advantage - when everyone else is packing the night before debarkation, you can stroll around the ship! Then, when everyone is struggling to find their luggage in the am, you can just walk on by!

Whatever you decide, enjoy your

Thanks for the answers so far, I think we will "go for it" and try a gty for the adventure of it all. Of course we will go with a gty 6A for a minimum. We have done a B2B in the past but we picked our cabin so we were able to stay in the same room both weeks. It was really great. We didn't pack anything at the end of the first week, we just waited in a lounge for a Carnival rep to escort us off the ship at 10am, straight thru customs and right back on board in front of everyone that was in line to board. We felt really special and it only took about 30 minutes from start to finish as they put us in front of everyone at each check point in the process. It was so nice to be able to sail for the second full week as it took away any issues of hurry up and do this or that. We just kept thinking no rush if we don't do it this week we can always do it next week. I wish we could get the time away from work to do a 7 day B2B more often. This time will just be a 3 day followed by a four day. Total of only 7 days but the second one will be #10 we will be Platinum so we are hoping for an upgrade! I would think going with a gty we will in all likelyhood not get the same cabin both legs so we will have to pack, maybe not neatly, but pack up all the same. With the first leg being only three days I imagine we won't compleatly un-pack to begin with. Should make for an interresting adventure. :)
