Are Motorola 5500 a good choice?

Hi,

I'm bringing my 13 ds on board the Pride. I've been reading the threads and have decided I want to buy walkie talkies. I think I've read the Motorola 5500 works pretty well. They have 8 channels.

 

I'm looking for any input as to the best kind for the ship before I buy.

Thanks, I saw them at Ace hardware for either $52 or 62 and have a coupon so I think I grab them.
