Bus questions...

Recommended Posts

When we walk over by the Wendy's will we see a bus stop?--or how do we catch the bus?? Also, I've read that you have to recognize where you want to get off and stomp on the floor of the bus, will we recognize Red Hook for the ferry?? Is there a sign or will we see the ferry?? Thanks!!

The short answer to both your questions is no - you won't see a bus sign near Wendy's, and I don't think there's a visible sign from the road for the St John ferry.

To get the $2 safari (not a bus - it's an open-air converted truck with seats like most of the taxis here only older), you have to cross the street at the light in the direction of a vacant lot, and stand in front of the canvas gazebo. That's the stop for people in the area who want to go to Red Hook.

There will more than likely be a lot of people getting off at Red Hook, so just ask another passenger, and somebody will probably offer to tell you when you get to the Red Hook stop. That stomp your feet business is a feature of maybe one safari on the island, and that's probably only because his buzzer wasn't working, or he was too cheap to buy one. Most of the safaris have some sort of buzzer to let the driver know when you want to get off.
