GottaLuvCruising Posted July 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2004 A guarantee means you don't book a certain stateroom; instead you book a certain category guarantee. You are guaranteed to get a stateroom in that category or (if you are lucky) better. The alternative is to book an assigned stateroom. This is a better choice if a certain location is important to you.
cruisinqt Posted July 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 1, 2004 There are assigned rooms where you examine the deck plans and pick the room you want. It's just like picking a seat out on your airplane when you book a flight. But a guaranteed cabin has no room assigned to you. They promise you a room in your category or above it but never below it. Most people who book an assigned cabin want to know exactly where they will be. Away from elevators and noisy places. People who book a guaranteed cabin are hoping for an upgrade. A lot of times guaranteed cabins get upgraded. Assigned cabins don't usually get upgrades. It's a toss up. You could get a guaranteed cabin hoping for an upgrade and get a room in a bad location. Or you could get an assigned cabin and book your room exactly where you want it. Though many people brag about the great upgrades they have gotten because they booked a guaranteed room. And guaranteed rooms are cheaper.
