room service

This is probably a dumb question but do people tip room service for just coffee in the morning?

I often get just coffee - either in the am or to enjoy on our balcony late afternoon - and I usually tip the person who brings it a $1 or $2 (if I'm feeling generous).

We always put $1 bills in the desk drawer so we don't have to fumble around with the safe first thing in the morning. I once gave a waiter a $5 casino chip that was on the desk and he was delighted.... :)

Not a dumb question but the answer is, "Yes." It's service you've received that is not included in the auto-tipping.

We do the exact same thing at the beginning of the cruise. That way we are not caught off guard without the proper amount and it is easily accessible.

Someone one once pointed out to me about tipping the room service delivery--- "we pay the cabin steward $3.50 per day per person and he/she does a lot more work then the delivery person who gets our food. So a buck will be sufficient.

You should definitely tip. And I have a cute little story about what happened to my and my DH by tipping the room service and canape delivery stewards. Before my last cruise, someone posted on CC that they always took a bunch of $2 bills with them for tips. My DH and I did this and used them to tip the steward that delivered our morning coffee/breakfast and our afternoon canapes. The steward that delivered our afternoon canapes, so much enjoyed the $2 bills, that he would check with us if we forgot to fill out the canape order to find out what we wanted. We were on a 10 day cruise and after about 5 days, we told him to just suprise us. AND HE DID! When we entered our cabin after a day at port, our table was covered with not only every canape that Princess had to offer, but also some of the other appetizers such as chips and salsa, a shrimp bowl, veggie tray, cheese tray, etc. There was so much food, that my DH and I called the rest of the people traveling with us with a FOOD SOS. Everyone showed up and we all had a wonderful time and basically ended up hosting an impromptu party in our cabin. It was a very memorable experience and I still laugh to this day about the look of suprise on my DH's face when we saw all the food. It's amazing what a little $2 bill could do. :D

While I'll continue to tip the room service delivery person only on Princess(as far as I know) does it specifically mention on its website that the daily amount includes room service.

While $2.00 tips are cute, its not easy for the crew to get them cashed. MAny people consider them fake they are seen so rarely(when did you see a $2.00 bill in regular circulation). This is also true of dollar coins which we have all either gotten as quarters or given away as quarters.

As I said I will continue to tip. Occassionally the room service has been brought to me by my room attendant.
