annfi Posted June 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Does anyone have the HAL New England/Eastern Canada brochure? Just curious what the cancellation policy is if we are about 35 days from sailing. I don't want to alarm my T.A. at the moment by asking her and my cruise contract says to check the brochure (which we never had). We do have travel insurance but if we cancel it will not be covered. Hopefully we won't have to but just wondering what the fees will be if we do. Thanks!
Atomica Posted June 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2006 I actually have a copy of the brochure on my desk. Cancellation policy should be the same for most cruises except holiday sailings, but here's what it says: "56-29 days before commencing travel: 50% of gross fare" Once you dip below 29 days before sailing, that number changes to 75%, and 100% if it's less than 15 days away. Hopefully that helps some...
annfi Posted June 30, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Thanks. And I just called HAL to verify. Hopefully we won't need to.

annfi Posted July 2, 2006 Author #12 Share Posted July 2, 2006 Thanks everyone, you are so sweet! Yeah, we're back on track and it's looking like a "go." My big concern now is my 92 year old Mom but she's hanging in there and keeping a good spirit and promises me she'll still be around in September! At least our insurance covers that. Thanks again! P.S. I wonder why they can't spell out that cancellation policy on the cruise ticket - I realize there is so much other verbiage on there but sort of silly they tell you to look at the brochure. annfi Posted July 2, 2006 Author #14 Share Posted July 2, 2006 Wow! Interesting topic! I actually worked in the travel business for 20 years - been done with that for about 6 years now. We used to live and die by brochures but now with the Internet I don't ever look at cruise brochures - the Internet and CC is all I need! Actually, I first went to the HAL website to try to find the cancellation policy but it was not there.
Cruiseoften Posted July 2, 2006 #15 Share Posted July 2, 2006 Actually, I first went to the HAL websiteto try to find the cancellation policy but it was not there. Please don't take this as 'wanting to have the last word'. We have a situation similar to yours, sailing in December. I do have a brochure ;) and like you we're covered. Out of curiosity, I went to HAL's site - typed in Cancellation Policies in the Search box - Wow! everything is spelt out there. This info may be helpful for inexperienced cruisers.......it's easier to read than the small print in the brochures! Have a wonderful cruise!:D
annfi Posted July 2, 2006 Author #16 Share Posted July 2, 2006 That is really good info. I just did more checking and realized that I "Googled" Holland America and it brought me to this link: http://www.experience-hollandamerica.com/cruise-destinations/index.php?WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=Google[/url] which did not have a "Search" box which I thought was really odd. In fact it made me frustrated with their website. Now I see I should have simply used the http://www.hollandamerica.com and all the info would be at my finger tips! Thanks for the heads up.
