Fruit Basket in Cabin

Has anyone ever ordered the fruit basket from Carnivals gift services to be sent to your cabin? Was the fruit fresh? Was it worth it? Did you get the one with or without a bottle of wine?

Im thinking about ordering 24 of these for our group.

I always have gifts waiting in the stateroom(s) for my family. On our last Caribbean cruise I ordered the fruit and wine basket for DH. It was great. There was a nice selection of fruit and it was fresh--and delicious. It was definitely worth it. :D

The casino had the fruit and wine basket waiting for DH in our cabin on the Liberty. It was very nice. There was wine, a couple kinds of crackers, a couple kinds of cheese, apples, oranges, pears, bananas and kiwi. It was fun to find it in the room. I know you can always grab fruit at the buffet but it was nice to have it handy when we wanted a little something.

They also decorated our cabin with bon voyage decorations and sent wine to our table at dinner several nights. Let's just say he does well at the blackjack table. I don't know exactly how well, because frankly I can't stand to watch. I lost $20 in the slot machines the second night of the cruise and never stepped foot in there again.

I ordered one last year when we took our Senior girl scouts on a cruise. Although everything in it looked pretty yummy, we ended up throwing out most of it. There was so much other food available 24/7 on the ship, that we were never hungry for a snack when we came back to the room. If we wanted anything, the pizza or buffet were only an elevator ride away.

 

Don't waste your money on it. You'll be too stuffed to enjoy it!

The Casino also had one waiting for us on our last cruise with a bottle of wine and bon voyage decorations. The fruit basket is huge. We ate it all except for the kewi (what a nasty little fruit that is) LOL There is some really great cheeses and a few nice crackers in it also.

 

I know the food was abundant on the ship and you can get fruit anytime but it was really nice having it right there to snack on all week.

Sure, its nice to have a snack in the room.

But, in my humble opinion (OMG haven't seen that spelled out in a while :p ) a gift that you can't go get for free/cost already included, elsewhere on the ship (fruit? cheese? crackers? :rolleyes: ) would be more "worth the money." A tote bag, t-shirt, or other logo merchandise would be preferable to me. I'm thinking "souvenirs"! :D

 

I'd rather have something to take home. Again, JMHO. ;)

 

Wait...upon rethinking, I can't bring home drink coupons, but they would surely still be a welcome gift!

I would suggest skipping the fruit basket for something else. Maybe something note even from Carnival...unless you want it in the cabin.

Our travel agent has had our room decorated (fun) sent us wine at dinner (nice) sent us certificates for photos, mixed drinks, carnival robes (all well used) etc.

She has even given us embroidered tote bags prior to leaving! (very special)

Anything is better used than extra food....but this is just my opinion.

Although I agree that a food gift is a little redundant on a cruise, the fruit basket we received from friends was very nice; it also included some packages of dried fruit. However, we did leave alot behind when we got home, since you can't take any off of the ship.

 

We also received an hors d'oeurves tray and it was remarkable! I'm going to attach a picture. Even though there was plenty of food, we enjoyed this snack with a glass of wine before dinner (it was too big and I'm not exactly sure what size this was). I think there are three sizes to choose from. We received a note telling us that when we were ready for the tray, to call room service.

I think they are (from top down):

 

Shredded roast beef mixed with horsey sauce on bread rounds.

Veggie topped mushrooms.

Maybe a couscous-type filling on bread rounds.

Delicious, non-fishy, fresh tasting salmon wrapped around cream cheese balls on bread rounds.

 

The beef and salmon were really good in my opinion.

Cinder - It's really nice that you want to surprise your group with a gift in their cabins, but.....;)

 

I would reconsider the fruit basket idea. Fruit is available all over the ship, and it's very easy to order fresh fruit from room service. It just seems like such a waste to pay for something that's already available at no add'l cost.

 

If I were in your group, I'd much prefer a Carnival tote bag, by itself or with a logo tee or cap, or other memento from the ship tucked inside. That can be arranged prior to the cruise.

I got the fruit basket in my room for being a Platinum cruise and we ate the cheese and crackers but not much of the fruit. If you want something that is similar but different, get the chocolate covered strawberry's or something like that. I think it would be difficult to get a tote bag or something like because then it isn't something that can be shared and only one person in that cabin is going to get it.

No picture, but they're really cute (and delicious!). The ones that were sent to my cabin looked like the berries were wearing little tuxedos, dark chocolate and white chocolate. I think there were either five or six on the dessert plate.

My DW and I each got tote bags full of goodies from the casino on the LAST night of our cruise.
