Cinderelli Posted July 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2004 Hello, all. I am one of those people who HATES smoky areas. My husband and I and now my kids will go out of our way to avoid smoke -- can't stand to get in people's cars who smoke (yucky smell), and always ask for smoke-free hotel rooms. I especially hate smoky casinos, and we live just outside Atlantic City in the summer! Please tell me your experience in the cains, the bars, casinos and lounges and any other areas on the Conquest. Are there areas to avoid that are smoke-permitted or excessively smoky? What about the cabins? Are some smoke-free? Thanks for your input.:o
pholter Posted July 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2004 I have found that the Piano Bar and walking through the Casino Lounge area are the worst places on the Cruise ships. They all seem to be the same. The Piano Bar is the absolute worst though and I'm a smoker!
Got docs? Posted July 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2004 All cabins are supposed to be smoke free. I have only been on a few cruises and have not noticed a smoke smell in the cabins. The piano bar and the casino are the worst. I can tolerate smoke and there were times I could not even be in the casino. Some days there was a cloud of smoke in the air. Most inside areas are smoke free. Most is done out on the deck.
tjevans Posted July 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2004 I never really noticed any smoke, even in the piano bar. There was the smell of smoke in the casino, iirc, but it was not overpowering. (I am a non-smoker with a very sensitive nose, btw).
serene56 Posted July 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2004 WOW got docs--who told you that the cabins are supposed to be smoke free? there are NO smoke free cabins on carnival excep tthe Paradise and that will change in September. On the open decks there is one side that is smoking and the other non smoking. No smoking in the show room/ or dining areas. I thought there was one lounge that is smoke free too. If you get to your cabin and do smell cigerettes, inform your cabin steward. For what ever they use to get rid of the smell truly does work great. JudyKa Posted July 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2004 We just got off the Conquest 6/13.....the smoke wasn't bad at all. We made the mistake of having to walk through one bar on "cigar" night....ACCCKKK! Really, the rest of the ship wasn't too heavy with smoke, though. We are super sensitive to smoke also. Have an asthmatic daughter. Even enjoyed the casino which might have a faint smoke smell....but not unbearable. Our state-room was fine even though they are all smoking allowed. Don't know what they do to the staterooms to rid it of smoke smell; but it sure works. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
masq Posted July 3, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2004 Glad to hear the smoke isn't too bad on some of these ships. :-)
tclowe Posted July 3, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 3, 2004 I thought the casino during some evenings was pretty smoky and very crowded when we went in late April. The bartenders were kept busy, a large crowd was dancing to live country music, a couple of photo stations was set up, and a full casino made the room smoky and crowded. I really enjoyed walking through Alfred's Cigar Lounge but of course it reeked of cigar smell. The theme in that lounge is cool and dark. I told my son that lounge was where the mummies on the ship slept at night.
pnjkeith Posted July 3, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 3, 2004 The fine smell of a cigar.Cruising is one of the last places you can enjoy a good cigar most anywhere. If you don't like cigarette smoke, I do not blame you. But cigars are great. Too bad they don't allow cigars in the casinos, jsut those nasty cigarettes. pnjkeith Posted July 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted July 3, 2004 The cigar is a great resource. It is necessary to have traveled for a long time on a ship to understand that at least the cigar affords you the pleasure of smoking. It raises your spirits. Are you troubled by something? The cigar dissolves it. Are you subject to aches and pains (or bad temper)? The cigar will change your disposition. Are you harassed by unpleasant thoughts? Smoking a cigar puts one in a frame of mind to dispense with these. Do you ever feel a little faint from hunger? A cigar satisfies the yearning. If you are obsessed by sad thoughts, a cigar will take your mind off of them. Finally, don't you sometimes have some unpleasant remembrance or consoling thought? A cigar will reinforce this. Sometimes they die out, and happy are those who do not need to relight too quickly. I hardly need to say anything more about the cigar, to which I dedicate this little eulogy for past services rendered." -- The Duc de la Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, 1794
glrounds Posted July 3, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2004 When you've just taken a major hit by your competition. When everything you've worked for seems to be slipping away. When everything that can go wrong on a project goes wrong ALL AT THE SAME TIME. You sit down, light up that Cohiba, taste that acidic "bite", let that aroma waif around you and the words of Churchill's shortest and most famous speech filter through your head: "Never give in . . . . .never . . .never . . . . . . . .NEVER" And suddenly you're a renewed and very dangerous threat ! !
